Well, I had a thread a while back about buyers who don't pay. This time my rant is about those who feign interest in a domain.

I have a list of domains that I've posted on another forum. A guy contacted me about 3 days ago asking about several of the names. He seemed interested in 4 of them and asked me to hold them while he sold off a website. I had the thread setup looking for offers and I asked him in two different PMs about what his offer would be but I only received questions instead of offers. I figured I'd be polite and oblige to put the domains on hold for him through the weekend as he requested.

I don't receive a reply all day and so I drop him a quick PM to remind him about his offer. I receive a PM back asking one of the same questions as before - where the domains were registered. I reply quite nicely and he PMs me back saying that he doesn't see them offered. So to shorten it up, I finally give him a range I'm looking for because he doesn't want to make the offer. These are decent .co.in names I'm offering for reseller prices basically. He replies saying that the domains are way too expensive for him.

Now, these domains aren't exactly exorbitantly priced. It was clear that these are decent domains and this is a guy who's been around in hosting industry at least for a while. I like to be kind in my dealings and work with people but it's getting harder and harder with people like this. Cheers to all the good ones I have come across in my dealings though.

I feel a bit better after this post.

It's always nice to be polite while doing business,But business is business and when i sell or buy something on the net,I stay in contact either via ICQ or other with the person until the transaction is complete,When someone really wants to buy something,They dont beat around the bush,They want the product ect,And pay for it,If they play that well i dunno crap with you.Put them in the back of your list.A genuine buyer will pay right then as the terms are agreed to.If not,Don't waste your time with that person.Best of luck to ya to in future sales.

Yep, I guess from now on instead of being nice I'll just have to act more business-like to prevent people like this from causing issues.

Yeah. Business is a cut-throat world and you can't be sympathetic in it - being sympathetic is how people lose millions! It takes a special type of person to be a true businessman, in my opinion. You gotta be tough, uncompromising and know what you want and only aim for the highest!

You're right...I suppose I needed this lesson. I PM'ed the guy back and requested politely that next time he asks someone to hold something that he is sure he wants to buy it. I've basically pegged the guy for a bargain hunter as I noticed he picked up another close name for $20 less than a deal I gave him. Should have realized that from the start I suppose.
