Hi, I am about to sell GPSFarming dot com for $2,000... any thoughts on if I am making a mistake or if I should go forward? Thanks so much...

This is a pretty new system, just catching on. IMO, that price is a fair but not great sale for the present time. There are a lot of names regged around this term (like GPSfarm.com, farmerGPS.com, GPSfarmMap.com, etc.)...
But remember that you have the category killer, here. All those people would like to own GPSfarming.com. My 2 cents: if you can really use the cash, it's not a poor price, it's quite fair... but if you can afford to wait awhile, I wouldn't be in a hurry to sell. This looks well on its way to becoming a standard in the industry, and if I owned that name I think I'd either hold out for a minimum of $4K, or wait for another few years to see where it goes... maybe by then it'll be a 10K name, especially for manufacturers that specialize in making GPS for farming?

I have a few forward-thinking names like this that are category killers in their respective genres; and the whole idea for my getting them was to keep each one for a few years and see where that tech ended up, not sell cheap in the beginning when that tech is just starting to be recognized. It's a gamble, but if you have a few dozen such names for a few years, all you need is one great sale to make it worth it. Yours is the kind of name that I would sell for a bigger price right now than 2K, would leave until a bigger offer came along.

Up to you, but that's my thought.

Thank you for the feedback. Bannen, you make some good points. I completely agree with your comments and would probably hold on to it but I have about 50 other GPS related names so I think it's time to lighten the load a little. I'll probably regret it down the road but I guess I can't complain with that kind of ROI on a $35 investment (reg + 5 years) Thanks again for the advice!

I would personally call "Precision Farming/Agriculture" the category killer for this particular industry. However this is irrelevant. This is a fair name and you have been offered a fair price.

In domain sales terms this looks like a good price, it may be worth approaching the owner of the .net/org if it is not them placing the bid. However the "- .com" is not taken.
When you compare this price to sales of PortableGPS.com $3500 approx or GPSmapping.com $8000 or DGPS.com for $6200 approx it seems to be proportionally quite fair. For a more equal comparison PrecisionAgriculture.com sold for $2700 in 2008 and is now owned by a GPS industry leader. Which I would say is a better name for the industry.

On GPS terms some of these units and some of the software packages and associated services for "GPS Farming" seem quite highly priced however they have quite tight margins to make profit.

If it was my name I would take the $2000.

Good luck with your choice.
