Abc.xyz - This new website could mean a lot for domain names and everything for New gTLDs. It could be the first step towards universal recognition. But also this buzz could easily fade away.

What we need is an abc.xyz type launch every month to keep the interest alive and to have a steady New gTLD growth and adoption. Maybe not of the same caliber, but you get the point.

"It will be an active website sooner or later. As soon as the new holding company is created and all the Google companies sit below it, it will become active. And Alphabet will probably go public."

This is Konstantinos take on the Abc.Xyz phenomenon!

Not quite. You can have company sites all day long, wouldn't matter. What you would really need is a consumer facing site. That's been mentioned many times, many people still fail to grasp this for some reason. You need a big site, that people visit and interact with in some way, like shopping or information. And let's say in the future it happens to be on a .web. People get exposed to that extension. That's it. They don't get exposed to .whatever............... They get exposed thru development. It's not going to float the other extensions boat as some people like to dream of.

Even one major site is not enough: it would remain an oddity, like those running on .to or .io.
There has to be critical mass.

The registries are trying to stir up things and make a buzz, because there is little interest from consumers. Not many people take new extensions seriously: even the people singing their praises usually stop short of heeding their own advice.

And here were are talking about an extension with inflated numbers.

Also, some registrars are buying their own inventory, they are their own best customers because they are having a hard time selling their stuff.

if google.com starts using google.xyz instead, then you'll have something to talk about
