Got the following email from google today regarding my account:

Hello Kyle,

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on
the Google ads on your site(s). In the future, we may adjust your
payment for any days during which invalid clicks occurred in order to
properly credit advertisers for any invalid activity.

As a reminder, any method of generating invalid clicks is strictly
prohibited. Invalid clicks include but are not limited to any clicks
that are generated through the use of robots, automated clicking tools,
manual clicks by a publisher on the publisher's own web pages, or a
publisher encouraging others to click on his ads.

If you are clicking on the ads on your web pages for testing purposes,
please note that clicking on your own ads or encouraging others to do
so for any reason is prohibited, due to the potential for inflation of
advertiser costs. Please be assured that there is no need to test the
ads on your site, as our specialists review all of our ads to ensure
that they meet Google's advertising standards.

If you would like to visit the destination of an ad to view its content
or to add it to your filter list, you can use the AdSense Preview Tool,
available here:

https://www.google.com/adsense/previewtool?hl=en_US

The Google AdSense preview tool is an addition to the right-click menu
for Windows Internet Explorer 6.x, allowing you to preview the ads that
may show on any web page. Clicks and impressions from the preview tool
are not applied to the advertiser's account. You can click through to
the target site without worrying about invalid clicks being generated
on your account, and without costing the advertiser for your test
clicks.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to this email. We
will be happy to help in any way we can.

Sincerely,

The Google Team

I wrote them back with the following:

Hi there,
I am unsure as to why I am getting this email. I don't understand how I have violated any terms as I have no promoted users to click my ads in any way, nor clicked them myself, and am getting a very standard CTR rate which would not show any type of fradulant/abusive usage. I would appreciate some type of report/message that would directly show me what I have done wrong. I love the google adsense service and it has proven very helpful to me for the time that I have used it. I hope you will consider this email and provide me with a bit more direct information of what is causing the problem.

Kind Regards,
Kyle

I'm not really sure what I've done wrong. Anyone else experienced this before? I would have to lose my account.

Could it be a competitor trying to get you banned in "hope" your site will close due to no funding behind it??

There can be many reasons but its very unlikly they will give out any information to you unfortuantly from readon stories from other people on other forums.

Hope it all turns out ok.

Regards,
Darren

I don't see any abuse in clicks though? For example, today, I am currently at 3,500 impressions with 6 clicks. CTR of .19% .

My usual average is about 5000-6000 impressions, with 5-6 clicks per day. CTR very rarely goes over .4-.5%.

I received the same thing and I said the exact same thing to them.

Do not take NP users for fools, and especially google. They know what you are up to and have enough money to put 1 manager to almost every link in the program (so it seems) :)

You received this because you clearly clicked on your own google ads on your own site more than once from your modem or high speed connection.

If you honestly didn't, then your mother, brother, sister or father did. :)
If they didn't, one of your friends are clicking your ads trying to ruin any chances in the market of google.. for you.

I honestly did the same thing, received the email and never clicked my own ads again. It's been around 4 months since my last click :) and I've not received one problem to date.

I don't think you are supposed to share your ctr but thats up to you. Since you did share it, I have to tell you that it is really, really low. If I can give you some suggestions from my experience. Less is more when it comes to ads. I would rather have a few single relevant key ads that flow with the layout and are positioned near the left middle or middle of the screen then huge blocks of ads that are so obvious as advertisments that visitors just don't bother reading them. The first rule of advertising is white space sells. Think of a magazine page. Imagine if you saw a page that was totally white with just one or a few words on it. You would be likely to read those words. Now imagine a page with tons of words. Would you read it? Most people would just move on. So, incorporate a few key ads in your layout, put a bit of white space around them. If it doesn't work you can always change it back. Best of luck to you.
