Any tips on optimising for google maps, the results that show at times in the search pages for specific searches.

I don't think there aren't much to tell. use Google webmaster tools to submit the Site map. set the crawl date to everyday or once a week depending on how fast you update your site content.

If you using google maps I believe you need to do nothing with that.

First of all make clear is it Google Earth Map stuff or is it about Google Sitemap :D

google maps used for SE or google to see more of your site plus inner page. i dont think you need to optimize it.
