Google recently introduced .page extension. Is anyone hear about it?

Does anyone know the 5 price levels in the various tiers in the period prior to general availability? Also, do are those one-time premium or will the renewal rates also be premium?

Just want to point this out when people get excited about Google being behind something (besides having success, a long list of failures)

Google is planning on being the registry for many new top level domains including these:

.boo - so they thought this was a good idea

and
.みんな .ADS .APP
.BOO .DAD .DAY
.EAT .ESQ .FLY
.HERE .HOW .ING
.MEME .MOV .NEW
.PROF .RSVP .SOY
.ZIP

Seems weird that a monster like S̶k̶y̶N̶e̶t̶ Google would create a TLD that looks like its going to fail.
My 'spidey sense' questions their motives.

Well: .APP was a good idea, wasn't it?

I guess it would work well as a redirect for Facebook pages and such. :xf.confused:

Yes, sure looks like it, doesn't it? This said, pretty sure the'd done their homework, so be prepared to be surprised :woot:

Ah, this would have been great if pagers were still around.

Numerics would actually work great with it ))

When is the last time you had a web page, I mean.... are most websites not web pages?

They don't offer a Sunrise Period at Google Domains (Google Registrar) so I don't understand but I wouldn't be surprised that they start to offer it for free for their Google Page. This is just a guess because offering sub domains on their "business.site" page offer is a little old fashioned.

Not sure I understand. On the registry page it says this
  • Aug 27 - Oct 2: Sunrise period where trademark holders who have submitted their trademark to the Trademark Clearinghouse can register .page domains.
Isn't that what is meant by sunrise period, or do I somehow misunderstand?

There is a Sunrise Period but the Registrar from Google (https://domains.google.com/registrar) does not offer to register during this Sunrise Period.

I agree that the set of extensions Google sponsored appear strange. I could see .dev, .app, .mov, .zip and .page to some degree. Re Kate's question the key point is how they would be used by end users. The Japanese language extension in the list means 'everyone' but apparently just under 2000 people yet feel everyone applies to them! The .soy apparently has a meaning as "I am" in some languages, as well as the obvious food group one. Again it has attracted few users.

I think that .page will find some traction, but less so than .app. While it could be used in various senses as in communicate with or as an assistant or literary sense of pages in books, I think IF it is successful it will be predominantly as an extension for single page websites used for documents, resumes, documentation, statistics, etc. It will be interesting to see how many TM holders signed on to .page - that was substantial with .app.

ps Answering my own question re how many in TM stage, I see it is up on NameStat: 320 registrations in TM stage so far, with 149 through MarkMonitor -- this link should show the numbers up to the previous day.

What would end users do with these TLDs ? Just wondering..
Other than the obvious "register keyword because (dot)com taken".. maybe Vanity page like Kate's.page

Most websites are ".website"'s, but not gonna buy that either. :giggle:

I have no plans to invest in them, but I could well see it being at least moderately successful if Google introduces it as effectively as they did with .app. When the 5 price tiers start rollout early in October will be interesting to see numbers, and then GA.

The most obvious application is perhaps single page sites for cvs, documents, etc or possibly for authors.

It's not just one, at least a dozen so far.
