Google will gradually roll out POP3 (Post Office Protocol) support over the coming weeks to users of its Gmail service, allowing them to use the feature to download e-mail messages from Gmail servers to e-mail applications on devices such as PCs and wireless handhelds.

While there are scripts written to simulate pop3 gmail, an official gmail pop3 tool will be much better. What's next? GInstantMessaging? Auctions? Bookstore?

Who knows. There will probably be a Google auctions, Google this and that before too long.

how can we get a google email??

[aww]

Remember that Yahoo offered free pop3 service for the first few years too. That quickly changed. There is no way to get revenue off adword ads for Google off pop3 (unless they start adding to your emails and I think people would either revolt or there would be massive fraud).

[Anthony]

Anyone forsee this as a step towards Google charging for additional Gmail features in the future?

[Nunim]

Well hotmail has pop3 :O.

Yes...but hotmail *sucks*

lol,
Agreed

I agree, they need an auction! Also, I think Hotmail is WAY better after they raised the account sizes to 250 MB. In addition, I think POP3 access for GMAIL is a good thing, it'll make it more accessable.

Thanks for the update Armstrong!
