isn't the purpose of a TM to stop people misusing a name .e.g google? I think that people here make to much of a deal out of TM issues.

hmm lets see here poeple make a big deal out of TM issues because you can get sued if you use a domain that contains a TM violation. Is it really worth all the trouble of going to court?

Your thread title in itself shows "bad faith registration" ... this sort of typo domain in any case is doubly worthless as the accent over the "n" is an unlikely type-in.

BTW- lookalikes, soundalikes, etc.. it doesn't matter, the fact that you yourself have described this as a google.com typo domain marks this as having TM issues.

People who post domains for appraisals should be prepared to hear the bad news with the good... $0 value IMO.

yes, I am aware of the fact, but for example if you registered google.net and put a porn site then they can sue you for misusing their name. This is a very grey are, and I have actually spoken to an internet lawyer about it, the verdict is that there is a small chance that they can sue you if you just reg the name, but the main way that they can sue you is if you misuse it.

IMO, it'd be safer not to reg this sort of name in the first place... your money is better spent in other ways.

Litigation doesn't necessarily come only thru misuse, threads like this are spidered by Google.. excellent evidence now exists regarding his bad faith registration (intent to to trade on the the Google TM).

One thing I have learned from Dave and others here is if you are interested in typos, it's best to keep them to yourself or focus on non-TM'd names.

the place I check TM stats is:

Good point... we all know typos and TM names have "value" to the right segment, but knowing this, it's best not to post them and run the risk of having them spidered, etc.

Also, checking to see if a particular term is TMed is fine.. but remember a name does NOT have to be registered to be protected by common law.

My advice, look for alternative domains that don't come with baggage attached.

soundsalike, looksalike, but the TM is not made on the look or the sounds. Just think a little, and you will see grate things happening in the world.
Cheers :)

Actually a lookalike or soundalike can have TM issues.. look at the problems MikeRoweSoft.com had recently...

Be that as it may, googñe.com is unlikely to get type-in traffic..

Those are great links, Dave.
One thing I learned today:
You can be in violation of a common law trademark, even if the TM was never filed.
