Hi, no doubt I have made another newbie mistake buying this! Please, could you could give me an idea on value of this domain.

Negatives:

The tld is poor as .ag
.ag is the chemical symbol for silver, maybe detracts from gold word

Positives:

gold is a great name
.ag, as the symbol for silver: the name is kind of like gold and silver, where silver is placed in name as of less importance
ag is the german symbol for company

Before I bought, I went to Estibot and it said "price of reg" value but it also said the .net, .info, .us and .org were available when they aren't. So I figured that Estibot was unreliable.

Had a premiumdomain.com valuation done. Took 10 hours and they came back with "I am pleased to tell you it is certified as a premium domain". The value score 529 (gold.com = 854) out of 1000 and they asked to list it.

I bought it.

Please let me know what you think. I hope I haven't screwed up (again)! Appreciate your views. No need to be gentle!

:]

I don't know about the extension, but Gold is one of the best possible keywords in any extension. If Gold doesn't have value in .AG nothing will.

There have been some .AG sales on NameBio.com here and there, some in the $X,XXX range.

Win.ag - $1568
Haus.ag - $1360
Mail.ag - $3325
Chat.ag - $1397
Hotel.ag - $2567

It is as good or better than most of those. So it has to have some value.

I agree , its worth mid xxx to high xxx but the issue is its hard to sell. Those are legit sales figures but what you need to know is that those sales are over 3 years . there has been 12 sales of AG since 2006 . thast like 4 a year. meaning no matter what it might never sell. there are probally thousands of one word .AG's regged and 3-4 sell a year . thats not a good stat. again its value is mid xxx to high xxx but you might never sell it unless you want to dump it to someone for mid xx and they will take the chance of a sale. But honestly you might never get whats it worth due to the extension. I hold one word premiums in foregin extensions ( each of thses one words sold for over a million dollars in the .com , one sold for 4 million) and I got told they were worth mid to high xxx but I could never sell it for more than $100. Most folks dont want to touch these extensions and endusers definetly dont want them.

Thanks for the comments. What would be the case if I built a site with that name and got plenty of traffic - would it be saleable then much more easily?

Heck yeah.but its hard to drive traffic to these extensions but if you can do it it will sell add to value but honestly alot of people try that route with the crap extensions and its still a crap shoot.

When comparing the above, I hope Gold.ag should be nearer to $500 IMO.

But not sure

Thanks for comments. Really appreciate them! I think will try to develop and get traffic - if I can figure out how to do that!

In times of recession gold prices usually go up, wonder if you could capitalize on that?

Good keyword but who is buy dot AG?

In this economy its very hard to sell names. 5 months ago, people were still buying LLL.something and now, no one is buying, those that hold inventories are forced to liquidate at losses or not renew.

I don't think you can capitalize on this extension.

Had to do a double take when i saw the "ag". I instantly knew it was the symbol for 'silver'. I like the name from a vanity stand point ;)!

Yes, this is one of the reasons I bought this name.

Yes, you may well be correct.

Yes, what appealed to me was the subordinate ag, as gold is more important. I first thought it was a silly name, but it grew on me vis-a-vis "gold and silver" and I will put silver on the site many times. Hopefully that will give it some sort of positive search result.

Thanks for the comments.
