Hi all!

Beginner question:
If i registered domains on godaddy, and i'm selling them there, is there anything preventing me from including these in outbound sales and skipping the commission i would otherwise have to pay godaddy?

All i would have to do is tell the purchaser to create an account on godaddy if the domain is still locked, and push it to their account, correct? Godaddy would not prevent this somehow ? I mean i godaddy sees the item being listed for sale, then all of a sudden it's pushed to someone else's account but they didn't get commission, would they not raise eyebrows?

The only thing i can imagine if somehow there would be a situation where someone just bought it on godaddy and i made the sale outside of godaddy at the same time. I guess i could take it of godaddy sale while i am including them in outbound sales.

I'm guessing all of this is not a problem, as i'm sure many of you sell them on multiple market places at the same time as well. And i really want to do outbound, i don't feel godaddy is putting my domains out there enough (also their commission is way to high).

Appreciate your insight.

-Also, if i start selling on the namepro forums, do i need to take it out of the listing on godaddy?

As long as the sale (or negotiations) is/are not conducted through Godaddy's marketplace, you should be all right.

@atv - the safest thing to do is to list your domains at Afternic with a fixed price. This way, they can be seen in GoDaddy if someone searches for a name, but it isn't in auction or the GoDaddy marketplace. You are free to do your outbound marketing to end users while still having the name exposed to anyone searching for it.

Good luck!

Go for maximum Exposure - list on Godaddy, Afternic, Sedo and Undeveloped

With Undeveloped you will have your own landing page so when you do outbound you can direct potential clients there. They have the cheapest commission out of the ones mentioned and the buyer is not charged a fee.

The alternative is Efty, there you would pay a small monthly fee with no commission.....

Have a look at all the options and see which is the best fit for you.

So it's allowed to list on multiple marketplaces? I thought there was some rule against that.
Thanks!

Nope you can list on the all ones I mentioned separately - with the lander, the main options seem to be Undeveloped or Efty.

Brandable marketplaces tend to only want you to list with them

Cool appreciate the advice. So what do you do when you sell it on one and someone else puts in a bid on a separate platform? Or does this you can list it only on one platform only apply to auctions.

I think I’m just going to list here in the namepros forums. I really don’t feel like commission if I can avoid it.

I’ve been looking at esty, their landingpages look nice, it definitely seems like a big improvement over GoDaddy. I can see who visited, follow up on leads etc.

@atv - If you have your domain names in auction anywhere, then you need to remove them from any other marketplace. But if you are only listing your domains as "Make Offer" or "Buy It Now" (with a price), then it is okay to list on multiple marketplaces.

If you have domain names that you are looking for "end user" prices ... that is, marketing to a potential business or company, then placing in marketplaces as previously suggested is best. The nP forums here are good for domain names you are no longer marketing at retail prices to end users.

Hey kpett, thanks a lot. So why is it not allowed when it’s an auction but otherwise is?

Because once you have an on-going auction (with bids), then you are committed to selling the domain in the auction. Let's say you have a domain name in auction at GoDaddy and bids are up to $100. Then someone else hits your "Buy Now" on Etsy for example. What do you do when the auction ends? You no longer have the domain. Or if the Etsy transaction hasn't been completed, then GoDaddy takes the domain for the auction's highest bidder and you can't finish the Etsy sale.

Either way, it is very bad practice with auctions ... but acceptable if you only have domains listed as Buy Now or Make Offer ... as long as you remove the other listings once you sell on one of the other marketplaces.

Ok I think I understand. So because there are so many people bidding in an auction it’s not allowed as all of them would be affected especially when participating in multiple auctions on different sites whereas with a single bid there are only one or a few potential bidders involved.
