GoDaddy - Rapid DNS?

It still takes a full 24-48 hours for propagation when I change the DNS for a GoDaddy domain.

With Fabulous it's usually instant.

I though instant DNS updates went into effect Sept 8 2004 or something like that.

Anyone have this same "problem" with GD? Or any other reg?

Hey,

Well I dont know what to tell ya. I changed the DNS for a domain I have registered with GoDaddy last week and after 10 minutes the changes were effective.

I switched DNS of one of my domains to HostGator in my reseller hosting account. So far it's been about 20 hours and it has not fully taken effect. The last time i did this, about 2 weeks ago, it took a while too. More than 24 hours.

When you changed the DNS, was it for hosting, PPC parking, or something else.

There is no more propagation time. Your ISP uses DNS caching, so when you visit the domain for the first time your ISP remembers the IP address and won't requery the nameservers for 8-24 hours.

So why is my ability to view the site nearly instant when I am changing DNS at Fabulous.

GD is usually quick .. I had them change within 5 mins of buying a domain.
Namecheap is also quick.

I usually just ask a friend to check if they can see the site. Usually they can and I can't. Sometimes it's even my computer and not the ISP that has the problem. I just restart my computer and it works for some reason. There is many different problems that happen. I don't think it's GoDaddy because it's usually always instant with them.

Exactly, DNS caching by your ISP. Ask someone else and they usually can see the site on the new server because they didn't visit it prior to your DNS change.

I do the same thing as well, sometime it can be your cache even. So if your using Internet Explorer you might want to clear your Temporary Internet Files just in case, sometimes it may be the source of problems.

All my GD registered domains have been resolved very quickly

If you've moved your site to another host and can't see your site but others can, delete the dns entries on the old host that link it to your domain name, that usually clears up any dns blockage. Then run the flushdns command on your computer.
