Godaddy promo code - Why so hard to use?

Why does a Godaddy promo code work sometimes, but other times, they don't? I don't get it.

I tried registering a bunch of stuff today at Godaddy and here's what I came up with:

Registering or renewing a domain for 5 years or more cancels out some codes (10% off, for example), but not every code ($6.95 registration).

Once your Godaddy order gets to $100 dollars or so, whatever code you're using seems to not work anymore.

Why do these things happen? Anyone know? I've been working with these for a long time, but I can't figure it out.

Most GD promo codes do not apply to discounted prices. When you register 5 or more domains, the price is already discounted, so most of the codes (ie, 10% off) no longer apply. There is fine print which kind of explains this: Not applicable to discounted domain products, premium domain names, memberships, maintenance plans, additional diskspace and bandwidth renewals, Bob Parsons™ posters or gift cards.
