This morning Godaddy had a banner up about pre-registering .ASIA names...It said you must have at least one contact in one of the listed Asian countries which we did..I Registered a name and in my account where the domains are listed it says waiting for application approval...

So if the application is approved, Is there a chance someone has already backordered the same name? If so then what?

It is for sunrise applications surely.... anyone can claim to have rights to the domain

Over the years I have found that the best way to avoid problems is read the instructions. On the godaddy application form it says right below the form:

"** $100.00 non-refundable application fee applies for General Registered Marks, Extended Protection and Registered Entity Names registrations."

Even if you don't have a mark or registered entity, it costs godaddy and the .asia registry *real money* to verify whether or not it is a false claim.

sorry, just list it as the cost of lessons learned in business,
Marc

I just pre-ordered one .asia domain at GoDaddy. If you select the personal use option you only get charged $39.98 for 2 years. The domain name is now sitting happily in my account pending registration. I'd be very happy if this actually gets registered to me. Not for financial, but for personal reasons.

Are you based in Asia/do you have a contact there?

I live in Asia. So I don't know if a pre-order would be rejected on the basis of the address which you give.

If more than one person has pre-regged the domain, it will go for auction at Pool.

That's not a bad idea. It'll mean the pros will have to pay more than regfee for the valuable domains and the bulk of the proceeds will go to the registrar.

I just had the first .asia for me become active today. I got the following e-mail last night:

Dear,

Congratulations! Your Sunrise application for the following domain has been successfully verified:

[TM name here].asia

Please note that if you are the only application for this domain name within the SR2A Sunrise Phase, the domain name will be registered in your name.

If we have received more than one application for the same domain name during this Sunrise Phase, you will be invited to participate in an auction.

You will receive further notifications regarding your domain application in due course.

Sincerely,

DotAsia Organisation Ltd.
The sunrise application fee was non-refundable as far as I remember.
