That's strange. I have tried this code for .mobi, .cc, .co and for other ccTLDs and it worked. If the discount is already given like you saying $9.99 and I feel the renewal is $19.99 so I don't think it will give you more discount. I don't have a single .us domain else I would have tried applying the code at my end for you
