Although price is cheap, nine times out of ten will fail.

It cannot compete with the big boys when it comes to backordering. That shouldn't surprise anyone.

Godaddy sometimes doesn't even beat out a hand registration.

Price is really cheap though. For what I pay on GoDaddy backordering, even if I catch the domain 1/10 times, it is definitely worth it. With coupons it is close to reg fee. But then again, I don't "need" any domains, I just dropcatch nice numeric domains and don't like to overpay.

I think if godaddy wanted, they could improve their system and beat Snap, namejet, pool. Right now their algorithm sucks. Even with 20 shill registrars they can't beat a handreg sometimes. They should hire a team specialized in this field to make a new dropcatching system and then i would pay 30 or even 40 dollars.
But now you pay 15 dollars , but you have to waiste hours of your time to move the backorder from one unsuccessful attempt to another one and so on...

It depends on the nature of the backorder.

For an actual straight drop, then you need to use the other guys.

But if the domain is already AT Godaddy before it reaches the point of no return, then you can grab it through their auctions.

Well i think we talk about names which are in pending delete and will drop from any Registrar.

Same happened to me but I give it credit for a sucessful backorder of a good .org which sold for 1500 euros at auction a couple of weeks later.

I have used them a few times and it's worked on domains that weren't crucial.

If a must have domain then wise to use others.
