Greenwich Mean Time... or UTC as its now called.. Last night we in the UK reverted back to the dreaded GMT.. The worst decision since Olaf the Hairy ordered 5000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside..

Ive hated GMT ever since I was a kid... What gives, someone back in the last century said :

"Errr yeah, its now late October, the evenings are real short, I know lets make them even shorter! Cool, if we put the clocks back an hour, it'll be dark by 4pm...."

They probably never used the word "cool" back then, but you get the point. I just dont get it, the days are short enough here in the UK during the winter, why on earth do we need to put the clocks back so that we get an extra hour in an already pitch black morning.

During the war, we had a thing called double british summer time, which basically was GMT+2... My Dad says it was great. Between 68 and 71 we trialed British Standard Time which was GMT+1 all year round. During this period 2500 fewer people were killed as a result of there being less accidents. We now have 10 times the number of cars, imagine how many lives could saved now...

As I get older, I stare from my office window during a pitch black, wet, windy and mild afternoon in late October (with more of the same for the next 6 months) and think - "Im sure it could be better living somewhere else".. Dont get me wrong, Ive travelled the world and I cant think of a better or nicer place to be than to be in England in the summertime ... (I feel a song coming on... lol...... ).. But the winters, you can keep them... What could possibly be worse than Mild (lots of bugs floating around), wet (kills going outside), windy (the ruiner of all business meetings) and dark (just depressing) days. Give me snow, ice, freezing weather anyday.. Scrub that give me warm and sunny..

Oh and ps.. If you thought the thread said GMTV sucks then "yes", thats also true.

I have to agree.. Apart from the always welcome extra hour in bed, going to work in the dark and comming home in the dark really sucks :td:

I just think it's a bit pointless, the clocks shouldn't be changed in the first place.

Now I got you, thought you referred to the time adjusting in general and not to reverting back to normal time in particular.

But basically we now simply reverted back to our normal time. DST is actually the artificial invention.

On a site note, it seems Namepros' vbulletin isnt yet aware of it.

Ye i agree....the thought of getting up every morning for uni when its pitch black, raining, windy and below freezing is "hard tae bare". Im sure Uni's would see greater attendances if this was done away with :hehe:

Haha, do you really think so? College students are generally rebellious. If we started classes at 10am, some people would still be skipping classes and the usual latecomers would still be late... :hehe:

I can't wait till November 4! The clock will go back 1 hour, and I'll get to sleep an extra hour. Hooray.

I think the politicians like playing with time too much, they do the same thing here.

I forgot about that,
This is the first year at this "new time"
previously it's been in October, and I've been watching for
the update for a week now :hehe:

Wow if we can change time whenever we want
then ..........the possibilities are endless

Then instead at the end of the day you would be leaving when it was pitch black instead.

Instead of 1 hour back, why not 1 day back, so Monday would become Sunday and we would get an extra day off.
