I was planning a social networking site with a free email service which was bound to prove popular, especially with China’s HUGE population.

My thoughts are as a generic and possibly most recognisable animal in world could be great name for a chinese travel site? start up company? ecotourism firm? no better than for that imo. And so on.


However thought would gauge peoples opinion on what price may achieve as it is.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks Peter and Brad. I agree with both of you.

Funny thing with searches and ppc tho, it's sort of in a different area i feel. It's value as you say is in the branding a generic can give.

One example i'll give on how i see it is, say you had 'bear.com' , sure amazing name and has so many different meanings. However Polarbear on its day could go for more if the right company came for it, in some ways more brandable, as the white bear from alaska that Palin doesnt like much lol, is from bear family but is actually a polar bear. And saying polar bear gives a mental image , and bear gives something else.

Giant Panda is the same. Only the black and white endangered ones we all love are those. They come from the panda family , but so do many different types of panda, red pandas etc.
In my honest opinion because of branding i would rather have Giant Panda over Panda, thats the truth. because it is the animals name not the family group . anyway talking too uch, want to hear what YOU think thanks again guys, really appreciate input

If you check panda.com tho, that puppy has been around since 1985!!!!!!!!!! don't think is being sold anytime soon 8^X (you know i LOVE these milfs tho)

Great domain. Very memorable and unique, which I definitely like and look for when buying domains. I would say this is easily worth something in the $XX,XXX range if not the $XXX,XXX range. GiantPanda has some feel to it that seems like the site I would want to go to, want to return to, and easily remember. Great domains sir!

Whilst it has great value as a generic, there is comparatively little instant commercial application.
The giant panda does not carry the same connotations as say a polar bear, gorilla or lion- a more aggressive predatory animal would have greater branding appeal for most I think. I struggle to think of many potential end users for this reason and I think the applications of it, and its potential to repay any capital layed out in its aquisition is not as great as is being suggested here by some. There are many other names which have stronger branding potential that would come in at a lot less money.
Whilst I think it has great value, I cannot see a reseller or investor being tempted higher than mid $xx,xxx, and if I am honest, I think the giant panda would likely be extinct before an end user with $xxx,xxx in their pockets came to play. I think you are on the right lines looking to entice a business from china though.

I really hope you prove me wrong Guy- with names of this calibre you can never predict what an end user would go up to! Best of luck.
