Getting the best from GoDaddy?

Hi All,

I use godaddy as my main registrar for a few reasons, personally I find it cheap, easy and fast - regardless though here's my current process:

I registered between 30-80 domains a day with them, 90% .com's the remainder org's and net's. Currently the best deal for me is as follows:

Bulk buy more than 5 at a time; enter promo code "chill3" or "zine3" and get my $6.95 .com's ($7.15 with icann fee), I also get free privacy since ordering more than 5, suits me great.

However on the .net / .org side I'm finding the best discount I can get is the 10% off that I automatically get for bulk buying anyways, and the domains are costing me nigh on $2 more than the .com's each.

I was thinking of joining the Domain Discount Club, to me this seems like a rip off on the .com's, saving me only $0.10 per domain, but I'll get a good price on net's and org's so should pay for it self?

Questions:

1: Domain Discount Club, can anybody confirm if you loose the ability to use promo codes [ie I can't join then also use a 10% off code to get more savings no?]

2: Domain Discount Club, do you still get the benefit of free priv on bulk orders?

3: Anybody know a good promo code for .net/.org that get's you them for around the $7 mark?

4: Any other methods of getting the best prices on new com/org/net's at godaddy?

Many Regards in advance all

Give them a call and ask. Whenever I call they treat me like a high roller in a casino.

Some people have problems with GoDaddy, but I can assure you that they take good care of the hands that feed them. I only have a few hundred domains and they offer free privacy, discounts on bulk buys, etc when I call them to ask or inquire about something.

Thanks Slim, I'll do that now :) [and indeed report back my response]

and reporting back, completely useless and just so couldn't be bothered with my call, even though I've spent $2500 in the last 2 weeks alone on domains with them, the best the guy could say was "yeah but your promo codes won't last forever but the discount club will" and the rest was basically just hurry up and get off the phone talk.

most disapointed :(

You may want to consider becoming a domain reseller. I think the current pro buy is $6.73. It does cost more but it you are buying that many domains it may be worth your while.

Keep in mind the person you talked to was a "salesman". It's good to have a Senior Account Rep who is also a salesman, but more likely to be on your side.

It is likely the discount coupons will always be around, so I would stay with that route personally. If they did happen to "go away", then you can deal with it at that time. When selling domains, it does matter to most buyers as to where the domain is registered, so that's why I would stay away from a resellers account. Plus "Paying" to save doesn't really make sense to me. Godaddy gives out a TON of coupons and you should be able to save enough.

BTW, Are these domains you are buying from TDNAM or Fresh reg?

Godaddy and the .me landrush meltdown

I don't have anything to say about Godaddy pricing or live customer service but I recently had to open a godaddy account (to receive pushed domains) and I had to do it on dialup and man Godaddy is a pig. It looks like there is a multi-mega transfer that occurs for every transaction.

I'm no expert on current/fancy transactional website design but it sure seems stupid to me. I contrast it to the very fast websites of name.com and especially dynadot.com.

For instance, locking/unlocking or autorenew, both toggle operations, require what looks like 2-3 meg downloads, every freaking time! I heard godaddy was super slow/bogged down during the .me landrush. I wouldn't be surprised if the transfer intensive operations were a contributing factor. Yeah, they have fat pipes, but surely cutting transactional overhead by one or even two orders of magnitude are worthwhile?
