Does anyone have any guidelines for pricing a [city].net name based on population? I am looking at a city.net name for a city that has between 10k and 40k population.

It really depends what the city has going on for pricing.

A city like Breckenridge, CO only has a population of about 2K but Breckenridge.net has a lot of value as it is a popular ski resort destination.

There can also be a big price difference in a city between 10K - 40K, that is basically 4x the potential end users.

In general You are looking at about low $XXX - low $X,XXX depending on the factors.

Every city is different
Every domain is different

Putting a blind price while not knowing the city name is like pissing off a 100 story building and hitting the hole in a soda can.

I would value .com then .org with .net to follow no matter what city. The best price to pay is one that you are happy with. Getting a "value" for a one of a kind item like a domain name is going to differ nearly every single time.

A domain can sell for X and half of the people will say the buyer got a deal, others will say it was a fair deal for both and some will say the seller got robbed.

Thanks for the input everyone. I peg the value of the one I am looking at in the mid $XXX range.

Tim,
A better measure of quality may well be number of search's rather than population. Its main industrys, number of visitors each year, location and also to me whether the .com and .org are developed already or not.

I'm curious to this question myself as picked up a .net recently which is fairly long but makes up for it in exact searches for the term.

End of the day as long as you can get it for a price your happy with and its worth that amount to you.
Then its a winner.

Ditto.

This is so so true! If you can live with the price you are willing to eventually pay, then you got the deal you were looking for!
