    Hi,

Please help me understand the Geo domain logic.

While hand ragging, I found something interesting.

For a specific country "X", I listed the states and tried a State Name + Keyword dot com combination.
Out of total states, approx 85% state names were registered (approx a total of 30-35 states) with the above mentioned (State name + Keyword . com) combination (not available). Remaining 15% state names are also well known but my derived keyword combination is still available.
No doubt the keyword in question is valuable as well (I think so).

Is it worth claiming the remaining 10-15% bracket?

Sorry for being unclear and subjective. Hope you understand.

Help me understand how this works.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't normally buy geo-domains, so I can't give any solid advice there.

In general though, you can filter out some of the domains you see available by checking their past history via Archive.org.
If you see that they were registered and for sale or parked before then chances are that the previous owner didn't have much luck so you should probably avoid.

    - Registered names do not mean they are good names.
    - Why limit the market to Geo names when you can pick other names for broader market?
    - Also there must be a reason why the names are available to register.

    Thanks @Hypersot
That gave a bit clear picture. I've kept the shortlists to my reserve bucket (may or may not be of future use). Time to work on the primary bucket now. :xf.smile:

There is no way to address the question of whether or not it is a good idea to register the percent that is available in the example above without knowing the keyword.

Having sold a few geo names, I know they can sell but do not try to go for too much $ unless it is a super combination...and that combo is likely registered already.

Before regging a geo, find out how popular that last keyword is in that specific area. For example, the domain name AlaskaTropicalPlants (dot) com would likely not be an ideal combination and would sit on the domain shelf until it is dropped...but Alaska (snow mobile/sled/ice name here).com could have potential.

    • For geo domain names,it depends on the local end usrs
      • If there are more famous enterprises, then this domain name is valuable, and it worth registering

    • good luck to you

    Thanks friend.

Let me put it this way.
The keyword in question here in my situation is a generic key word (like Rentals/Jobs/Loan(s)/Plumbing etc.)
Though generic keywords goes with every Geo location but some generic keywords are more valuable then others.
Now if such a keyword is claimed as State Name + Keyword dot com combination for 85 out of 100 state names (example only) and other 15 are free available (not premium or auction domains), is it worth swiping the remaining 15.

For example, if for UK- WalesPlumbing.com, YorkshirePlumbing.com and others are taken and only ScotlandPlumbing.com is available - is it a vise move to swipe the last?

    Hope this clarifies the question.
Sorry if I am acting kiddish. I am a beginner and in learning phase.

    Thanks in advance.
