Hello everyone,
I started reading about domains few months ago, but I haven't purchased many domains till today. I want to find my niche.Geo domains are interesting and in my opinion they have lots of potential.Planning to register 100-200 of these names. I would like to hear your opinions and suggestions about this niche before I reg those names. I have some questions also:

Is it worth investing in Geo Domains? If yes ,then which ones I should register: Cities with big population+keyword or mostly tourist visited cities/places+keyword?

Which keywords have best value or easier to sell(for example: xxxxHotels.com , xxxxRestaurants.com , xxxxCasinos.com , xxxxGuide.com , xxxxJobs.com and etc.) ?

Thank You!

That's my exact quote ... here for the past several weeks, and even ealier if you go back through all the threads, I've been discussing xxxxJobs.com locally, etc! :music: :imho:

This IS the niche that offers the next .COM opportunity online ... that is, "localizing the internet" (I should probably now โ„ข that phrase)! :gl: :lala:

Best of Luck.

That's a good point ... NorthCarolinaJobs.com might not be available, but certain cities, towns, or regions within North Carolina might be and in the .COM, IMHO. I agree that it's a (very) local niche opportunity, and will also require local development along with proper and effective SEO, as well! :gl:

This thread was a blast from the past to stumble on. I still have a few Geo's from a few years ago (2011). I started thinking about them again after doing an evaluation on one today, which might help rejuvenate the Geo domain asset topic.
Asset Type:
Dictionary-Word + Two-Letter-Abbreviation / Geo + Acronym
Note: That's good news. It's fairly large city/metropolis with a large local population. Electric vehicles are the most optimal in big cities with multiple charging stations, for short distance travel. Having a larger population equates to a better chance of a local consumer market.
Note: That's bad news. It indicates everyone's stuck holding their City + EV assets. It's looking more like the EV market isn't ready yet for these assets and that there are a lot of investors holding City + EV bags, waiting, hoping, and being patient.
Opinion:
Unfortunately, there was a lot of fresh registration demand for these combinations, but not many of them are actually being developed into thriving businesses. That's bad news for the niche combination and I think the best way to recoup the years of renewal investments, is to either develop/monetize it yourself or pivot and focus on another EV abbreviated market for a little while.

The hard part is identifying the potential end-user, gathering more research on their specific niche, formulating a presentation, negotiating, and closing.

Unfortunately, your asset does not have any reseller liquidity to the naked eye and you will have to do a lot of leg-work to find the right buyer and apply the hard parts I also mentioned above, which in most cases, investors fail at.

I still have: SanAntonioLogoDesigner.com & SanAntonioLogo.com

Anyone else still have any Geo domains?

I have over 1000 geo domains in different niche and I sell approx 20 geo domains every month and keep acquiring new ones...

Though 99% of my geo domains are sold in xxx range and rarely any sales in xxxx range...

As it's a general believe that lengthy domain names are not good enough and not advisable to go with which is usually the nature of most geo names. In this regard does the length matters?

Adding comment reference pertaining to this topic:
It was a combination of things really, not the combination sequence alone.

For example:
  • Geo + service or Geo + product PPC developments crashed hard around that time, actually, a little before it, most were just hanging on by strings to get their geo sites to produce after that. As a mini-site (5 to 7 page) developer at that time with a small PPC network franchise, it effected me big time.
  • PPC itself had deteriorated by then, paying less per click with more restrictions and buffers.
  • Geo + product or service Domains started being sold as developed websites in mass, eventually forcing the value of the developed geo assets down due to the saturated dump market of them.
  • I kept a few and pushed forward with keeping some of them alive and producing as long as I could, with no avail. So I ended up letting all but a small handful go.
Note: It's not that geo + product or service domains don't have some value which is dependent on the combination sequence, it's that I still have a bad taste in my mouth from a crashing Geo PPC network dev trend experience.

However, in more recent news, with France going after France.com, it opens up the world to Geo crackdowns by governments (Local and federal). The snowball or domino effect may or may not follow as local governments make claim to city .com's.

That may never happen, but the France incident doesn't help prove it won't.

I suppose the above may be an added reason I haven't thought about investing in any these days.

Summary: So, to sum it up, I stopped investing in Geo's for the personal past experience I mentioned and current government affairs.

It really depends on the niche and sequence. It's impossible to blanket value all long tail Geo's.
