So you have a domain and some end users in mind, what now? What are the best strategies for generating leads?

I'm not so concerned about the content of the emails, more, who in a company do you contact for example? How do you find their address? Should you send another email if you don't receive a response, maybe to someone else in the company? Should you ring them up? Does LinkedIn have potential?

Today I sent this email to a large company:

Hi,

I hope this finds you well.

I'm emailing to give you the heads up about a domain name which has recently become available, _____.com, a very close anagram/typo of _____.com. Being so visually similar, if this domain were to fall into the wrong hands it could be used to target your customers in a dangerous attack known as phishing. By acquiring this domain for a relatively nominal price you will not only be able to protect your customers from this attack but also be able to redirect any customers who have mis-spelled your domain automatically to your home page. Now that's service! This is a unique opportunity for you to strengthen your brand and reduce your risk.

If interested please get in touch either via email (_____._____@_____________.com) or telephone (+__ __________).

Best regards,

In this case I was able to find an email address for the Legal & Business Affairs Director who is also the Company Secretary. I feel like he is probably the right person for it, although I'm not 100%. I was able to find out who he was as the company have a page about their directors and then I Googled him to find an email address. The information might not always be so readily available though.

So how do you advise generating leads? Deciding who to contact and how to contact them?

Any advise?

Emails are very subjective and each person has their own preferred approach. If I'm honest I am not a big fan of the one above given it uses negative words like 'attack' and 'phishing'. Also there is just a bit too much detail, I prefer short and sweet.

I agree with TheyDon, this particular email example is very aggressive and not-so selling imo..

that email reads like the hundreds I get a week trying to sell me a domain "that is close to my own domain"... I would advise to scrap that email and start over. There are some templates on here you can use but honestly I just make it a bit more personal and more to the point.
