Does anybody know of a decent gallery script? either free or cheap? I am thinking of developing a site that will have around 3000-4000 photos that would need to be sorted alphabetically and would be easy to manage (add, delete, update)...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/) is fairly easy to manage although customization could be a bit of a hassle. there are free themes/skins out there though.

If you're looking for something that might be easier to theme, try Plogger. It's an extremely 'lite' software that's easy to install.

Although you can upload images directly from the admin cpanel, the best way is via FTP and then you can easily sort out the images and albums later in the admin panel.

I've tried both gallery 2 (menalto) and coppermine, but I think plogger's the best.

thanks for your info, I will try those out soon..... and let you know what I think in this thread....

also I found this http://www.web-album-maker.com/ which worked ok for a small gallery (check the gallery at the Ian Gillan site in my sig) but this time I want something far more flexible....

just to say that I tried some of your recommendations and decided to do this with plogger.

Plogger was a good choice! I have not heard of them before, but from the lists above it was the one I liked the most too. I will have to remember them for future reference.

Off topic:
Btw, very nice name for your site -- I bet you will get some good SEO clicks with search engines ;)

I like the posters you have up too... I might even frequent this site. How often will you add new posters?

[EDIT]Oh, if you ever decide to do a future gallery project, then check out Pligg. I have seen some good gallery sites using the Pligg platform.[/EDIT]

thanks for your kind words! yes plogger is a good choice. Really good script and good forum to get help from.

Yes the choice of the name was based on SEO potential. Actually all names I plan to develop must have this potential and this is generally something I would recommend to anybody.

I still have 100's of posters that need to be uploaded. At least twice a week (btw plogger has a dead easy way to upload loads of photos at once via ftp)

I would recommend the following scripts.

1) ZenPhoto
2) SimpleViewer.

These two are free options.

There are some paid scripts as well, like WScript.

What sizes are your photographs?

Maybe if you could give an indication on the dimensions, I could suggest some more scripts?
