I picked this one up at auction a couple of weeks ago - would be interested to hear your thoughts on it as I'm no .tv expert..

Zero. IMO.

Disclaimer: Please keep in mind that this is a FREE appraisal. This is a guess at quick flip resale value not an unrealistic end-user price. Often times my appraisals are rushed, too low, or too high. Sometimes my advice is totally wrong and occasionally downright dumb. If the post stamp is after 5:00pm EST, the chances are even greater that inaccuracies will occur due to blood alcohol levels.

I'm surprised you would say zero on this one. I think it is a great name with great potential.

Thanks! I thought it had a lot of potential too which is why I picked it up. I don't usually buy .tv but had a good feeling about this one..

I'm not an expert too, but I think it worth much more than you've paid for it.
Best of luck with that name!

IMO the problem is that there is a LOT of money in the gadget space already-operating at the venture capital level. [See: gdgt for example]. Practically impossible to compete with those guys. But maybe you can find a niche that isn't being covered, or that you can make your own. Super high-end gadgets. Or "the go-to place for James Bond gadgets". The dot com is parked so you can't hope for an end user sale there at least. I like the name a lot, but it does strike me as the kind of domain you're going to end up having to devote practically your whole life to if you want to turn it into a business. I would think it's good enough to keep for a few years to see if anything bubbles up, a tv show might want it for example.

woolwit - not looking to start a flamewar but i dont understand a thing you just said.

That much money must mean there's a lot of interest. If x number vc's are into something then a few more ought to be too.

Hmmm. How about a tv channel devoted to "gadgets"?

The dot com is parked so you can't hope for an end user sale there at least.

And why not? Is the .com owner going to drop her price to 5 figures or less? My first domain sale was a .net and I got it because the .com'er wanted far too much. That was almost 10 years ago and that individual still owns that .com. They might have even made 10% of my sales price in ppc over the years.

I think the same holds true of .tv. Not only is it a great ext for anyone looking to use video as a focal point of their site but it represents a huge value over inflated .com prices. Myself I prefer owning many of the .tv's I have and would choose them over the .com even if they were both the same price to acquire.

Can you give an example of a domain that wouldnt require someones life to turn into a thriving business? I'm not talking about running a PPC or a leadgen "business".

Most people starting a business devote their entire lives to it. Thats the way its been for me on every major endeavor I ever kickstarted. I like to think I've wisened up a bit over the years and now see myself convincing some young bucks to devote *their* lives to my (*our*) new businesses instead.

to a reslller who specializes in gadget niche $250-$750
to an enduser $1500-$5000

IMO this domain only has upside. Normal regfee. 10 years old? I would hold indefinately until the market is better. Hold out for an enduser.

Just shows how things have changed for the better - that was a 'hopeful' prediction then and a lower than 'reality' fact today.

...and nice predictive work by the way.

I think the 'market is better' now.

IMO this domain only has upside.

You can't argue with 7500 little reasons to agree that this name definitely had upside

Yet more proof of the new reality of .TV

The changes from March combined with a 'normalisation' of .TV extension in everyday life, plus all the Google TV stuff, and a thousand other reasons are all lining up to make things a bit cosier for all those poor souls who stuck with .TV through thick and thin.

So since your post was after 6:30pm, does that mean you had too much alcohol when you posted? :p

Nice sale of course, congrats to the seller!
It already resolves to a webstore... for sporting goods.
