Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

Like many of us are noticing the number of inquiries and sales are on slow side and it’s been the case for quiet some time now. As the regular readers of this blog knows I stopped outbound marketing at the very beginning of 2014 until last month of this year. However, I recently started again for low quality domains to sell them and buy some higher quality of domains.

Both the recent sales were inbound sales. First sale was of Ravan.com whose initial inquiry came in Jan 2017 with $1,000 starting offer. I countered with 20K and after exchanging several emails, buyer finally stopped at 5K. I declined and later forwarded the lead to Uniregistry broker and we ended up having $7,500. I acquired this domain in 2013.

Another sale was JonathanLee.com which I had put up BIN for $6,888 at Afternic but received an offer of $4,500 through Afternic. I countered with $5,888 but eventually accepted the initial and max offer presented by buyer of $4,500.

Although I like investing in 1-2 word person names and both above sales were person names but it’s really been difficult to sell them like we can move on with brandables, products and service related domains. I would especially suggest to newbies not to invest in person names heavily and focus on other types mentioned earlier.

Both domains were acquired in 3 figures in total so it was a great ROI. Like many of you ask how much I paid for my sold domains, so let me share this time with you. I paid $485 for JonathanLee.com in 2014.

Feel free to give your feedback.

Great work there. Congratulations.

Well one thing, how do you proceed with outbound in the case of Name domains like one you have mentioned?
Starting with good Ol' Google? Or some other strategies you have followed?

Thanks

Thanks Marshall!

Best way to start is Google. Secondly you can go with NameDroppers.com and ZfBot.com. You can also contact few strong looking buyers through LinkedIn.

That's some really good advice. Especially the LinkedIn approach.
Thanks!

Congrats @AbdulBasit.com on the sale. Do you always end your buy now pricing with 88? I have seen that Berkens, Mann and many others love to end their pricing with 88. I know that 88 is lucky with the chinese but is there some other reason that you choose this.

Thanks!
While quoting to Chinese with 88 in the end makes sense as they might like it. But for rest of the world asking price with 88 ending IMO is just to show there is somewhat serious calculation done behind the asking price of like $21,888 instead of just round figure $21,000. But I don't follow the pattern continuously like if I asked $21,888 so I don't keep countering with $19,888, $17,888. Keep changing the figures at the end is good in the entire communication IMO.

just had a similar sale for a one word .com through our system....buyer started with 1k then said final budget of 3500 after some back and forth then he came back with "he borrowed some money" to make it 6500 then I sent him our sales page with lowered buy now of $6995 and he made payment within 20 minutes. I think it was nice to have the new lowered price out there in the wild for anyone to act on with a buy it now. I usually ignore the $200 offers but an open offer of 1k is a serious buyers offer and there is usually more behind that.

Thanks for sharing. Congrats!
I respond to all inquiries no matter what the initial offer whether it be $100 or $1,000. Have successfully closed the deal in 5 figures which actually started in 3 figs.
