Hello again.

I made some logos with macromedia freehand mx.
I saved and got FH11 files.
But most people who sell their logos also give psd files...
Am i missing something? I exported FH11 to psd, but then i cant edit that psd file in photoshop. Only can edit FH11 with freehand. Photoshop 7 gived some kind of layer error when i tryed to edit exported psd file.

Are my logos now useless when somebody wants psd files also? :'(

I hope that this is right thread.

my suggestion is since you're good at Fh why not do files there and when someone requires psd files then just do an export whenever it needs some editing edit the fh files and export again to psd.
if asked why it produces error tell that it's an original fh files not psd, so give as proof the fh files as well. i think it will be understood or much better switch to adobe and do all your editings from there.

Thanks.

I also tested other exporting options and now have some more questions

I made EPS file with freehand. And opened it also with illustrator. Works ok.But i have read that coreldraw should open EPS also. So i tryed coreldraw 8 but page is empty. Is version 8 too old or isnt it possible to open eps with coreldraw?

And one more question. When i save file to EPS in freehand then it automatically creates two EPS files. One file is empty(white) when i open it with illustrator and other is working EPS file. Why freehand does that?

I have seen ALOT of people request freehand files for the vectors. Also, in freehand there is an export option to PSD i think.

Thank You.

But is it normal when i export to psd from freehand, that i cant resize my psd file in photoshop ? But why some people want psd file? For printing? I havent figured that out yet. Whats the good points of getting psd file ?

Sorry for bad english.

even same brand graphics editors can't tally their different graphics extensions so your expertise is more on vector graphics (line art) as opposed to photographic so your best choice is to give the original fh files as well. on the other hand since youre good at graphics, it's practical also to learn photoshop so you can give .psd when really required for a graphics project, i also use corel 8 i think the version and upwards only works in win xp.

One more thing...

I made logo with freehand and saved two files, gif and jpeg.

Gif looks ok but Jpeg looks bad. Colors are like blurred or something.
I used both 144DPI.

I have read that jpeg is used in word documents and webpages. But in this quality it is not possible. What i have missed again?

And i also discovered that that png is also usable in word documents.
Is it normal to use it there?

Your JPG compression must have been set for poor quality and small file size. That's why the result was not nice.
Also JPG format isn't too good for line-art style drawings - it should be used for photo-like images.

What should you use for line-art?.. I always make everything jpg.. Gif quality sucks.

.gif's are for line arts (vector) more compatible with your fh files, while .jpeg are photographic images more on bitmap thats why it blurry.
i think you need a converter (good one) from fh to .gif not jpeg coz you're creating line arts in the first place.

GIF quality doesn't suck :) You are using it improperly.
When used right, GIF images are much sharper than JPGs.
Line art - GIF
Photos - JPG

Should have just used illustrator in the first place and you wouldn't be in this mess! :)

Get the .eps into illustrator and export it as a high resolution .psd... bundle it up and send it off.

For vector I always use .gif when saving for web... there are no quality problems. I use .gif for vector and .jpg for raster images.

Im here again :)

I now have editable freehand files, illustrator files and gif files.
I have photoshop psd file also, but in freehand i can move different details in my "drawings" but cant move anything in photoshop. I can erase and make such things with my "drawings" in photoshop. Is it normal that there is not possible to move any "pieces" like in freehand or illustrator? I remember like i have done this before but cant remember how i did it?
It would be good if i could use same work in freehand, illustrator and photoshop.

I have also tried opening eps files with illustrator to make it pdf, but then all
things are with different colors than original freehand or illustrator "source" file.

144 Dpi is not low resolution. Normally 72dpi is prefereed for Web purpose and 300dpi for full color prining purpose. I think you didn't properly use converter. Thankfully i am not used to use Freehand / Illustrator. I always use CorelDraw for Vector Drawings. :)
