I think riders should have the right not to wear a helmet if they so choose.. however, I also feel the insurance companies should have the right to impose a penalty if you're injured and it can be proven that wearing or not wearing a helmet was a mitigating factor in your injury.

I personally would hate wearing a helmet, but I'd only have myself to blame if I was injured because I didn't wear one. I'm against legislating personal choice issues.

yea it is optional here in florida, I wear one on long rides but short ones i don't its soo freakin hot here to have one on and when u stop at a like u just heat up quick in the sun.

here in california before the helmet law you could spot a motorcycle cop from as far away as you could see, they were the only ones wearing ping pong ball shaped helmets then

Hmm I clicked on that and it definitely wasn't work safe. Oh well you win some you lose some. I know here in SC its optional after 21 which seems like a smart compromise.

I live in Florida as well. But remember its only Optional if you carry 10,000 in medical insurance coverage. If you do not have this insurance you must wear a helmet

helmet law here in Cavite, Philippines is not that strong compared to when you're approaching Manila, and/or Makati and other cities.

I am opposed to helmet laws, but you have to carry insurance. Not wearing a helmet does impose on non riders if the state has to carry the burden of an excessive hospital bill because you didnt wear one without insurance.
Then again, do we charge ppl extra concerning seatbelt laws? i.e. seatbelts, even in most mandatory states are only required to the level that was originally installed in the car. So a person in an older car with only a lapbelt could incur more damge than a person with a shoulder harness.
