He says:
"The brands had led the way. Everyone else followed."

These brands have had the .com and the marketing behind it for many years now. I don't see them leaving that. It would be nothing but confusion.

Frank invested in .XXX to the tune of $1.7 million.

The new gTLDs aren't for everyone, and most importantly, aren't geared towards domain speculators. That's the game-changer.

And the entire reference to Greece is inaccurate; as soon as my comment there gets approved, you will see why.

and we all know how well .xxx is doing ;)

He has some interesting points, but I'm not sure I agree with all of them.

Very interesting read.

I think .xxx is a needed ext and will draw a good market in due time. It is just a matter of the complete switch over in that niche.

I am a bit hesitant about others. Such as .web as an example. .com - .net = .web , That is why .ws never found it's way into many homes , So what is the purpose.

If every niche had it's own ext, It would be a wild goose chase IMO. .movie - .forum , It just creates havoc IMO

I never listen to the big players when they "predict" something, because nearly all of them are one way or another involved in some activity to make money from those "new" things in the future.
For me these people are like Registrars. They always make money. No matter what comes or goes in DN Biz.

I think for one or two years, people will buy those new tlds and there will be less money for the "established" tlds. Those 1 or 2 years will be the right time to BUY .com/net/org and ccTLD CHEAP and after the dust is settled and everyone is confused and unsure, the prices will settle again.

Even the old and "established" BIZ, .info, etc. suffer and going towards zero value.
What is so different with the other upcoming tlds? Nothing.

IMO

.WS never "found it's way into many homes" because it is the country code for Western Samoa.

Once the idiots at MLB, NBC, and others who naively think .TV stands for "television" wake up and find that they've chosen to align themselves with the country of Tuvalu, the same will happen there.

.XXX is doing well for those that captured the essential adult keywords. Of course, if you foolishly got random non-adult keywords, that's a different story.

I meant the .xxx extension as a whole:

-.xxx was opposed by the adult industry
-only 215,853 registrations. 32,859 are adult-oriented and a whopping 82,976 are non-adult defensive registrations
-27,555 dot-xxx sites are developed and up and running
-there are only 61 .xxx domains in the alexa top million.

Only parts of the adult industry, those with the loudest mouths.

The number of registrations exceeded the ICM Registry expectations of 100k in the first year.

As with other new TLDs, any investment should be made with caution.

I think ultimately it helps the .com prices. Even in the article it talks about Bud and how they tried .tv, even put some marketing behind it, didn't work out, when back to .com. And .tv is easy to remember. Now you're going to have .this and .that and .thisandthat, that's even more confusing. .com is just too engrained at this point. Maybe if this type of thing happened back in the day it would have had a better chance. So they'll go back home.
