I am very happy with my recent acquisition. But what do you think?

MensHairdressers [dot] com & MensHairdresser [dot] com

I checked Google and locally for me the term MensHairdressers gets over 2,400 exact searches a month. On Google "Mens Hairdressers" only has 16000 results. This is fantastic because it means very little competition for me. There are also 5 sponsored links appearing too so there are even advertisers for these keywords.

Have I found a decent niche to develop? I was thinking of developing a nice attractive web 2.0 style directory with Google Maps integrated and by postcode search. It appears there is interest in people searching for Mens Hairdressers. Can I use this to balance in my favor and charge for a lifetime fee for mens hairdressers to be featured on the website/directory?

Thanks in advance for your replies,

Dave :tu:

Only 16,000 results is no problem, but 2,400 exact searches (is it global) per month is considered quite low. Normally, I dont develop anything with less than 10,000 global monthly searches. 20,000-30,000 is much better. Because if you want to develop it thats a lot of time, and money unless you are making the website all by yourself.

An example, I tried hard to win an auction for GuruNanak.com a week ago on Namejet. The end price was over $1000 so I bailed, I was planning on bidding up to $800 anyways I dont even know where the end price was. Once it crossed $1000 I closed my browser really pissed. But that one really would have been great to develop because it had like 124,000 exact searches per month. A chance to make a real nice income on PPC if I could rank on the first page.

Because think, lets say you make a minisite for this, and do some link building, and it ends up ranking on the first page. Ok 2,400 people will see that first page, lets say 10% of those searchers click on your link. Thats 240 uniques per month on your site. Of those 240 uniques, on 10% click an ad. The math is just not working, thats why I only develop for terms 10,000 or more exact searches per month.

But if you have a mini site template and just need a day or so to develop a site with around ten pages, no big deal because not much time investment, go for it! Good luck with your site and hope you prove me wrong!

Thanks for your input winter wind :). I do agree with you in some respect but I do feel I could get this working if I can build an attractable website and identity around it. :)
