OK, I have an idea for a forum, and have the domain. How do I get a forum going, I have very (read very, very, very) little programming/webdevelopment know-how. Any tips or suggestions welcomed, I haven't a clue (yet..?!)
Thanks

Do you have a web host?

Which forum software are you trying to set up?

Well to start out you need a web host, unless you'd like to use something like http://www.invisionfree.com which allows you to make a board for free. Unfortuneately it has ads.

get a webhosting service, then download a free forum script like phpbb modded, then its easy to create and arrage the forum in the admin sections.

Next I would hire some freelancers to post "relevant" topics in the forum on a weekly basis. Forum activity helps attract members.

Then I would run a few banner ads, link exchanges, maybe run some cheap adwords ads for a few months. Also write, or hire a good article writer to write around the forum topic and submit those to free article sites to gain links to your forum which will also increase members. Keep the discussions active at all costs, only way to keep a new member coming back is to have new posts and intresting conversations going on.

Hope that helps!
