Why does this seem like old news? I thought I heard this before...

It IS an awesome sale though and probably well worth the money to the buyer. Win-Win sales like that are always nice to see.

Because they've been trying to sell it for a few weeks/months now. It was up on Sedo for I think a reserve range of more like 2.5 - 3 million if I'm remembering right, but clearly they didn't get it. Guess they decided to come down on their price.

FWIW, this sold for $1.5 million in 1999. In my opinion, it should have appreciated for a lot more in that amount of time, considering the domain.

Indeed, a higher rate/percent of appreciation would have been nice. Had they held on to it until the economy rebounds/rebalances, they would have seen a higher return. For the current challenges that most companies are facing though, this was still an acceptable sale.

Bare in mind the .com crash. People were throwing billions of dollars at anyone with a concept. Prices from then simply cant compare to a real understanding of internet value now.

Great deal for the buyer as the name is worth more in my honest opinion. If I was the company who owned it & had other money available, I would have held out for more.

As Kevin Ham said recently: 'The important thing during this crisis is not to run out of cash'...

That $1.8m may be what gets the previous owner of Fly.com through these times...
