An end-user might really like it, but the worry is always that their customers would be confused by it. Notable successes of exotic TLDs, like del.icio.us and last.fm, also get their name in the .com variation - something that wouldn't be possible for your hack, obviously.

Let's not forget that del.icio.us also owns delicio.us and delicious.com. Why didn't they just use delicio.us?
last.fm makes sense because it's a music site that lists what people play. I can't tell you off the top of my head any other .fm that has been developed at all.
