As part of the roll out of iphone, AT&T is including flat rate data access with its purchase. Other carriers will follow quickly and promote their new data access plans for their mobile users. In fact the offerings will be aggressively marketed and attractively priced.

AT&T will want to acquire market share with the iphone. In order to prevent this other carriers must offer more choice and better price to overcome the tremendous initial push the iphone is receiving.

The use of the mobile internet as a convenient affordable option is here. In the coming months the options will broaden and prices will drop.

I've had a flat rate data plan w/ ATT for months. Unlimited for $20/mo. Nothing new.

The flat rate plans of the iphone are different. it is just one price for your plan and automatically includes unlimited internet so people dont have to add it as an option. the problem with offering unlimited internet for $20 per month as an add on like you have is that most people will not add that to their package at all. This way all iphone owners are all forced to have unlimited internet which is perfect for us. Helio also has unlimited internet with all their plans too i think. Eventually all companies will have to do this to compete and that is what will really push the mobile web.

I agree with the main point that mobile internet has become much more flexible and accessible as carriers compete on pricing and data plans. What has changed today is that users have far more choices than traditional carrier plans, especially with eSIM technology.

  • Flat-rate and flexible data plans make mobile internet easier to budget.
  • eSIMs allow travellers to activate a data plan without changing a physical SIM.
  • Competition between providers gives users more options for different usage and travel needs.
  • For international travel, I would compare coverage, data allowance, validity, and total cost rather than choosing only by price.
