Flash sites are very hard. They are even hard to validate. I really don't care for flash due to its extreme hard use in validation.

easy

Well if you use frontpage, you can add "search text" and that will basically enable people to search the searchable text you entered. But people won't be able to search the text in the flash it self even if you have the text load of a different file

Yeah and you don't want to use FrontPage with flash. If you are sophisticated enough to make a flash page or buy and implement a flash page, the last thing you want is FrontPage screwing it up.

yeah i was thinking of buying a flash template for my website.

I really like the template but then i was confused regarding its friendliness to search engines.

That means if somebody wants a flash website he should assume that he will never appear on search engines....

You can have flash elements in your site, with html parts that will show up in searches. But if your whole site is in flash, search engines can only go by your url, title, desription, and other meta tags for information on your site.

That means if i buy a readymade flash template from a site i still have a scope of getting into search engines by including some html parts in it.

I would say optimize each movie and page with appropriate titles and content. In the absence of indexable content, make sure the pages have appropriate meta tags.

Also make sure that your Flash site has a few targeted keyword phrases. It might help your optimization efforts.

Thank you

therefore this implies that flash sites are not preferred.

Do anybody here use flash sites and can tell about his experience

Nope. Head over to the flash posting area.

I like flash but only like the video players etc. It is hard to be validated as others have said but also think that search engines tend to disagree with it?

It is true. I think if Macromedia worked a bit harder at making it more flexible sites like Google would search it easier.

I have ceased working with flash a while ago. You can use some flash elements for some 'hot' features to make the theme nicer, but I think the main text should always be a "normal" text ...

As a visitor myself I never wait for a flash site to load unless I want to really see the design. But most of the time I have no interest in this. Having to wait for a site to load just makes me close the browser window.

I think instead of making a full flash site, one should make small flash movies on the site and use them only on pages where they are necessary. This would keep the site attractive as well as help your optimization efforts.

I completely agree with Phillip.

Google can now read flash.. I think its OK.. as long as you make include text on your flash... and not an image text.

it can read bits of flash but it still sucks compared to standard HTML

the only thing i would use flash for is if i didnt need the page indexed, ie for a porfolio of my design work.
