Hey,

Ok, when was the last time we had a discussion in here? :hehe:

So, What do you prefer, or use, Fixed or Fluid layouts?

Personally, for me, it depends on my site and it's content, if i have alot of content, width, if i have only abit of text, i use fixed. :D

For those that don't know,
Fixed = Thin.
Fluid = Wide

Fixed is in at the moment, but Fluid is fast coming back.

I look to the future, I mostly go fluid.

I've been doing fixed lately.
I don't know about all this future stuff.

I think with the rise of Ajax and dynamic content it is becoming a little bit important to have a fixed width so that the dynamic content must also have defined width.

Lately though, there have being quite a few sites with a header that is 100%, and the content container below, to about 70-80%.

Yeah I've seen a lot of these around lately. I quite like them too. It separates the header and main content which is a good thing.

Fluid does not always mean wide.

Fixed designs can look REALLY silly on big screens.

I use fixed simply because using fluid can often limit creativity, since everything has to be expandable.

I think fixed and fluid has both positives and negatives. Personally, I think fluid is better because you can hold more information. But then again, fixed looks more "friendlier." It really depends on what type of site you are building.

I prefer fluid personally :)

Fluid.
I like everything scalable, nothing should be fixed- to me that says "I made this this size for me"...

I'm a big fan of fluid as well

I tend to use fluid, but with a minimum width.

Many of my sites were designed fluid on tables, but now with CSS we're making sure to develop BOTH fixed and fluid versions using a simple 'switch' button between the two versions. That way, we satisfy both tastes!

I would say it depends on the content , for forums i prefer fixed rather than fluid, for websites i prefer fluid with a minimum width.

I prefer fixed everytime. They just look more elegant to me. I'm sure fluid has it's place, but as a non-designer, I think fixed is more eye appealing.
