A nice shiny nugget for your portfolio. How did you obtain fish.us? I am wondering if the new owner of fish.com has contacted you or vice a versus? Seems like the owner had a online pet supply and also sold tropical fish online. Who would have guessed a online tropical fish seller would want to invest so much in a name that does not define his business. Well yeah fish is fish, but a big difference in a beta or guppy and a 65 lb, halibut.


But I assume the experience of that internet traffic and how the advertising market for online web sites has been out performing all print and other media, then they made a pretty good investment in the long run.

If I had spent 1.4 million dollars for a domain name called Fish.com I would have fired off a email to the owner of fish.us

I know a few misdirected types in come in for .net at times so I was wondering do you think you get any from folks trying to go to fish.com? That question will more than likely make your name much more valuable.

Now too is the possibility that the name can be up for legal matters if it is simalar to his online business.

I can't believe that fish.com is just a forum ... with seemingly no monetisation.

Though I assume they will make it like dog.com at some point.

I obtained this domain in the initial land rush a few years ago. I'm in no particular hurry to sell this one, and I generally don't contact the owners of other TLD's to sell. That can sometimes cause more problems than it's worth. If they want it, they will come. Generally, if you have the .com, you have little need for the other extensions. A better buyer would be someone who really needs a short generic fish domain at a more reasonable price than the .com.

I too, am surprised that fish.com is only a forum at this point. Maybe they just have some long term plans that have yet to be implemented.

How about a web site that is a treasure hunt and of course the name of the site is fish.us! Do you make much in traffic from it?

It does get some traffic, but not what I would have thouht from a strong keyword like this. As with most .us names, the value isn't so much in the traffic, but the developmental values. My other .us gem is video.us. It gets more traffic, but still not what a .com would get.

Personally I like .us names and I think business will want to align themselves with a high profile extension such as that. A national tv show called firstbusiness and others are leading the way for other large corporations to be known by the .us.

The extension has many factors even better than a .com for certain names. It implies so much more than a .com in certain instances such as made in America etc.

So as you know fish.us is worth many tacos. So is your name videos.us. You have probably had that a long time too. Long term? Who thinks of that anymore.

A side note not having anything to do with your fine names. It is my hope the U.S government takes into account its behaviour in world affairs to continue to assure the people of this country who produce quality products that they will continue to have a buying audience.
