I know this is an odd question, but if I had to make my site compatible with just 1 browswer, Firefox or IE, which one should I do? I personally use firefox, but I know more people use IE over firefox. :|

FireFox all the way, Ive met alot of people who think IE is still king but, 85% of a total 1500 unique vistors to my site are using FF. I also love it so much that I typosquat them.... spreadfirefix.com :red:

Making a website compatible with one browser would mean that you have to make it incompatible with another one.

Why would you make a website incompatible on purpose?

Why not make the site compatible with both?

Or, you could use the IE7 scripts. Just add a reference to the IE7 CSS files in your HTML and IE will behave as it should. (http://dean.edwards.name/IE7/intro/)

Its better to make your site compatible with all browsers.
But i'd go for firefox since lots of people use it.

Firefox. More and more people are using Firefox instead of IE, and it IS the best browser. I reckon we're gonna come to the days where 95% of internet users use Firefox.

the replies here are definitely biased.

your decision should depend on what site you are developing.
if your site is for techies, you may wanna optmize it for ff.
if it is for grandma, ie is a way to go.

cpanel site log should give you a rough idea of the browser population
of your site.

Like I said in the thread above, I know this is a wierd hypothetical question, just answer it or move along.

IE ofcourse. It's not better , but the majority still use it and you wouldn't want to lose hundreds if not thousands of visitors because of this. FireFox in the other hand is growing , and not supporting it will make your site lose lots of visitors.

You should support both

You have to be IE compatible... not an option. While firefox may be gaining momentum, and probably has more sophisticated users, you need to cater to the IE people. Now if you're site is of a technical nature, where you expect your visitors to be fairly savvy, you need to be firefox compatible as well.

So go for both, and good luck... if you run into problems, someone here can help for sure.

Thats a very bad idea to lock to any of browser.

You should support both

So go for both,

And you tell me to move along?

You still haven't answered my question either.

The first you notice with firefox is the smoothness if you can. I dread when i have to use ie it sucks.

Who's your audience? I'd look at who the sites intended visitors are, make my best guess as to whether they are IE-users (corporate types, old ladies) or Firefox-users (IT geeks, designers), and go that route. I overgeneralize, but you get the idea.
