File Sharing Application

I thought that this would be the best place to ask my question. Anyways, I want to build a file sharing application, however its not going to be sharing MP3 files, software. It is specifically aimed for developers with Open Source Codes. Could I get in trouble from the law if it were strictly used just for sharing source codes and not for mp3 files or other commercial software.

File sharing equipment is not illegal in any way. Its the certain files (eg copyright mp3) that are shared, which is illegal.

As long as everything is open source or freeware etc etc then I cant see a problem at all.

You can't get in trouble for that, but you have to be extra careful and check the shared files often

Although Kazaa has won a few cases, they claim that they just provide the software (which is legal) whereas its the users who illegally share stuff... so it isnt their responsibility.

Its like closing down MSN Messenger because its sometimes used to transfer illegal files. :p

Yeah I get what you mean, thanks for all your opinions guys. Checking files and etc might be a good idea, such as banning and etc.

someone i know made one for sharing certain types of pics he couldnt figure out how to do the userbase though coz you needed to know the users ip address to dl from them

You'll have to ask the author of the script if it's ok to publish them like that I guess...
