External txt in flash

whats the easiest way to make a scrolling text plane with external text? when i make a text box and give it an instance name and than add a scrollbar targeting the textbox it works fine as long as my text isnt externally called.when i externally call a text file it doesnt work unless there is no scrollbar...any help would be appreciated thanks
