Expiring dot us names

I see that a dot us domain that i want is expiring tomorrow.
The name gets over 50 million results on yahoo search
and it is a great domain name. The owner apparently registered
it because he has the same last name as the domain name.
What is the best way to try to obtain this name?
I don't see anyway to backorder a dot US name.
