I'm looking to design my domain name, expirealert.com, with content and then sell it. Can anyone suggest a method for finding domains about to expire? Is this just doing a bunch of whois's from a PHP script? Also, how much would this be worth with content?

Thanks!

HI

With out seeing what the site looks like and how it works it is really hard to give a price for what you could sell it for.,

But the domain name expirealert.com sounds pretty cool for such a website..

It all depends on that you want to get for the develop site when you sell it..
Are you looking for a quick buck,,, low $xx or are you looking to make high $xxx to $xxxx if so then I would get a programmer from a site like scriptlance.com or rentacoder to develop the site for you...

Spending $500 or so on a programmer to develop the site for you could mean that you can resell it for $2000+ plus all depends on what you have the programmer to create for you..

Thanks

Re:

I'm a Developer myself so I'm just looking for ideas. I wouldn't need to hire anyone, and I'm looking to develop it so I can make a substantial return (not a quick buck).

You probably need some inside contacts with the registrars for the site you propose. Generally extensive use of the whois databases requires some financial arrangement, as in paying for it I believe. There is a lot of competition in this as well, and many places to get expiring domain info for free or relatively cheap. Whois.sc is one such service.

Another possible use with less competition would be for domain owners to get an alert when Their domains are coming up for expire. Fabulous.com offers this service to large users, but I haven't seen much other competition. This could be a backup if whois email changes, email gets lost, or just to consolidate info from multiple registrars in one place. It may be easier to get this type of registry connection as well since it probaby isn't as resource intense.

Good luck.

Thats actually a really good idea!!

What does everyone else think if I developed this site where users could come, enter a domain name to be monitored, and domains would be checked daily and people would be "alerted" via email or text message if that domain name was going to expire and/or became available.
