Excel noob question...

I've signed up on an Excel forum but while I'm waiting for them to validate my registration I've got a question with what I'm sure is a really obvious answer to most of you who use Excel. But I've been messing around with it for awhile and can't figure out how to do it.

I'm trying to bulk load my domains into a portfolio script that requires them in exactly this format: Domain,Category ID,Registrar,Expiry,Price,Status

I have 1000+ domains in an excel spreadsheet formatted with the above columns, in the proper order. But how do I export the data into a document so that they are comma separated with no spaces, like it is shown above?

Thanks!

Save as, and then set filetype to CSV (Comma Separated Values).

I had done that but when I double click the .csv doc Excel always opens it as a spreadsheet. Just dawned on me to open it with Word and wallah! there it is, just the way I needed it!

Thanks Russell.

Okay so here's another one. The expiration date format needs to be: MM/DD/YYYY.

In excel for Mac 2004 this date format MM/DD/YYYY is about the only option that isn't available. The closest is M/DD/YYYY which doesn't work (e.g. I got this error message: "3/13/2010 for dalra.com is an invalid expiration date." Either in the wrong format, or a past date. Please use the format: mm/dd/yyyy"). MM/DD/YY doesn't work either. Has to be exactly MM/DD/YYYY

So ... any ideas on how to get this date format in an excel or csv spreadsheet?

you can use the text format for the cell or column. This way it leaves your format alone. I just checked and it works in my excel.

You could also select the row, go to format cells, select "Custom" instead of "Date," and type mm/dd/yyyy in the field.
