The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
where was this? I know that EuroDNS just got registrar status for EU names but was not aware that they were taking cc's for them. You will get your money back, IMO

I don't know but I received this email from EuroDNS.com earlier today.

Dear Customer,

EuroDNS is happy to announce that as of today we are an officially
accredited .eu Registrar, and our .EU Registration system is now ready to
accept your applications.

Even though actual registrations will not be submitted to Eurid until
the last quarter of 2005 (November) for Sunrise and in early 2006 for
open registrations, applications start now. Bearing in mind that the
First Come First Served rule also applies for the Sunrise period, your
application and payment will establishing the sequence in which we will be
submitting your application.

Our records show that on you have indicated your wish to apply for one
or more .EU Domains as soon as the .eu Registration process begins.
These domains are recorded in your personal area of the EuroDNS website.
Please login to your account area http://www.eurodns.com/sign_in.php to
review this list.

If you confirm your application and make your associated payment within
30 days of the date of this e-mail, we will retain the date priority of
your original pre-registration. You can also submit post-Sunrise
applications now and retain your priority in our system. Otherwise the
priority date in our application sequence will be based on the time when
both your application and the associated payment have been received.

In order to proceed with your application, log into your EuroDNS
account. You will see the list of EU Domains you have already requested, and
the date when your pre-application was received by us. You can then
select those names you wish to apply for during either of the Sunrise
periods or later - and the category of the prior rights under which you
will be applying trademark, company name, etc. Make sure that you meet
the criteria of a European link, and are likely to qualify for the
appropriate Sunrise period that you have selected. Note that supporting
documents are not required now, but will be needed when the actual
submission is made to the EU Registry later this year, or early next.

All applications will cost 18 for the first years registration.

Pricing for the Sunrise period was recently published by the EU
Registry, and EuroDNS has decided to pass the Registrys prices on to our
clients with a minimum markup. This will ensure we not only offer the best
service to our clients, but also do so at the lowest possible price.
Our Sunrise application prices, excluding the first years registration
fee are set by the Registry at :
Those claiming public body status 50 Euros
Holder of registered trademarks 60 Euros (*)
Holder of other prior rights 100 Euros (*)
(*) where validation does not take place due to an earlier application
for the same name being successful, part of these Sunrise Application
fees may be returned by the Registry.

I read their terms of service yesterday which state the money is nonrefundable as far as the 18 euros charged for the application. I suspect they will offer a credit of that amount for other services they offer if they are not successful registering domains. The terms that you must agree to clearly say nonrefundable. Some other registrars are even worse with terms that they will charge 10 euros or more of your fee just for trying to get a domain for you. No credit at all toward other services. It's going to be an expensive lesson for a lot of people who have not been burned in previous landrush schemes.

Worse than I thought. They too will take 10 euros from a failed application and only credit 8 euros for other services they offer.

35. Specific .EU Domain Application Terms
Sunrise applicants will be required to provide the legal basis that grants the right in community law or the national law of the member state where the right is held, and provide the necessary documentary evidence to demonstrate the right under that law.
The required documents will be specified by the ‘.EU’ registry later this summer. However, this documentary evidence will not be required until the actual applications have been submitted to the Registry after the start of the Sunrise period scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2005. and an initial check by the Validation Agent (PriceCoopersWaterhouse) has shown the applicant has the necessary priority.
Finally, and for good order, please note that during the Sunrise period applications will only be accepted for names which are IDENTICAL to the name of the right (company, trade or family names, trademarks, etc ), and that Applicants will have to prove their formal link to Europe.
By submitting your application and payment now, you will establish your priority sequence in which we will be submitting applications to the Registry when the appropriate registration period opens. If for any reason you decide not to submit your application for a given domain name, and inform us by e-mail at least 4 weeks prior to our submission of your application to the Registry, your payment will be credited to your account, less an 10 € handling fee.
Once an application has been submitted, there will be no refund unless a validation does not take place due to an earlier application for the same name being successful, in which case part of the application fee may returned by the Registry. In this case our handling charge will still be deducted from the funds returned by the Registry.
