I would only value it at reg fee myself.

The name is trying to do too much... Typically with brandable domain names, you want to limit yourself to using only one "gimmick". When you try to combine two different ones (the leading "e" and the two word combo in your case), you make it extremely difficult to have your name stand out as a desirable option among all the others that are available at the same (or better) price and quality level.

eTax = amazing name
TaxMax = great name
eTaxMax = little to no value

Seems hard to believe, but the drop-off in aftermarket value really is that significant.

@Joe Nichols
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I am new to this and to the community. That you took the time to explain your reasoning meant a lot to me. I understand your perspective now and can see where I went wrong. Explanations like yours will doubtlessly make domainers smarter, which will increase the value of this community.

No problem!

If brandable names are something that interest you, there are a lot of threads on this forum that speak to them specifically. I've also found dngeek.com to be a nice resource for these types of names.

Reviewing the offerings at sites like BrandBucket, Brandpa, SquadHelp and others can also be a good way to get a sense of what makes a sellable brand name.

Brandable names should be thought of almost like a lottery ticket... It can be very difficult to actively sell them to existing companies, since if your name is already being used, you risk encountering trademark issues. So typically you're waiting for a startup or new product/service to want to use the name. However, the better the name and more popular the niche, the more you increase your odds of cashing in that lottery ticket.

These are your traditional "categories" of brand names:
  • Invented (i.e. Trivago)
  • Keyword based single word (i.e. Shopify)
  • Keyword based two-word (i.e. BrandBucket)
  • Non keyword based single word (i.e. Yahoo!)
  • Non keyword based two-word (i.e. FireFox)
  • Popular expression (i.e. MansBestFriend)
Prices can vary wildly when trying to acquire names, depending on the length and quality of the name. The nice thing about brandable names is that it's still possible to register decent ones that give you a chance at a good sale.

Good luck, and welcome!
