Looks like EscrowDNS.com is closed. It was brought to my attention just now in the form of an email from a client who's purchasing a domain from me. He said they informed him that they had to shut down "for legal reasons."

Their website says this:
EscrowDNS is temporarily ceasing operation of it's domain name escrow service. Any outstanding transactions will be completed as always, no new transactions will be allowed. Several states have vague or modified escrow laws for Internet companies offering escrow services. For this reason, we will be closing our doors temporarily until all permits and surety bonds are in place. We have strived since the beginning to stand out as a domain name escrow service that cared about your transactions and I feel we have accomplished that mission thus far. When we re-launch we will have a completely new site design with added features and will offer our first month "escrow fee free." In the meantime, we recommend that you use www.Escrow.com for your domain name escrow transactions. They offer a reliable service and prompt customer support. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support.

Too bad. It was a good service by domainer to domainers.

It looks like they will not shutdown forever. Hopefully they will come back soon.

I've never used EscrowDNS before, but that e-mail tells me that they offer brilliant service - they managed to reassure customers who may have active transactions, briefly explain the legal situation, promise an even better service when they come back, throw in a promotional offer, and even dare to give a good reference to a competitor for the inconvenience.. and all within one relatively short e-mail. I like that.

Thank you for the heads up. I feel bad for Justin, but what can you do sometimes. He will be back.

I didn't receive the email, guess I'm not considered a valued customer.

Just to be clear, there was no email from escrowdns (that I know of anyway), I got an email from a client who was undergoing a transaction with escrowdns who notified me that they were closing. I suppose he must have called them with a question or such and found out that way. Then I went to the site to check it out, saw the notice and just copied and pasted it from the website to this thread. I don't want folks thinking there were emails sent out that they weren't included in, as far as I know there was no email notice.

I have inquired directly from Escrow DNS, and I have just received the following answer:

"The EscrowDNS.com website is up and running again. You can use it for any of your domain name transaction if you would like."

Yes, we are up an running. Our new site is still in the works but it will be built for domainers specifically. Give us a try, we cater to all types of transactions including payment plans, brokers, etc.
