Hi Members

I have received an offer for one of my domain name for $5000. This will be my first domain name deal. Should I use Escrow or Paypal for the deal. Which would give me a better control over the deal(I mean buyer going back on deal or filing wrong dispute)
If you can provide the benefits and drawback for each i would be greatful.

Thanks in anticipation

First, I hope it's not one of those appraisal scam.

Paypal - NO.
Escrow - small maybe.
EscrowDNS.com - Yes
Moniker Escrow - Yes
Sedo Escrow - Yes.

Escrow services like escrow.com and sedo escrow protect both you and the buyer for a small fee usually like a percentage of the sale price.

Just going through paypal, unless you know the buyer could be risky for both parties.

escrow.com has been unfair in several deals - bad reviews have been issued against them from several Domainers.

How about using ebay?

Ebay isn't an escrow service and uses Paypal ...

First of all for a deal that size use an Escrow service. Whether it is Escrow.com, SEDO, Moniker, or another one. It is not worth the risk of using Paypal on a deal that size.

Second, as mentioned above I would be careful this isn't the appraisal scam, especially if this is a new reg.

Thanks..I appreciate all you senior members for hand holding me on the issue

If this is a new reg then it's 99% an appraisal scam, if you care to post the name here then we can evaluate it for you.

if the buyer is real then use Sedo, very fast and safe.

I've personally used both escrow.com and sedo.com for both buying and selling domains for large amounts ($5K+), and they've both been great.

I would stay away from Paypal and Ebay for sure!.

if you use ebay and the deal goes bad all you can do is give a neg feedback lol

For any amount over $100 I'd go with Sedo or Escrow, both have worked for me. Yes, it does take awhile (5 days-3 weeks depending on where buyer and seller reside and how quick the buyer pays) For smaller amounts (less than $100) even then you have to be careful.

Best of luck!

Use Escrow.com or Sedo's Escrow system for this sale; I'd recommend escrow.com.

Are you sure this is a genuine offer?? It wouldn't hurt you to do a little bit of research pre-hand before committing anything at all.... :imho:

I'm going through escrow.com's process at the moment (as a seller) and find it slow. I've been at the 'Buyer paid by credit card, awaiting Escrow.com approval.' stage for 3 days now. I guess they don't work during the weekend.

Use escrowdns.com. Better than escrow. Of course Paypal is nothing to compare when it comes to security. Especially for big transaction. They tend to comply with scanmmers. :p Lol...

Mods can sticky it for a while ..will surely help newbies..
