domain Equality.org worth 22k?

.org is slowing down lately, I would value it between between 4-7k

It sold for $8.500 about 5 years ago
Equality.com only sold for $9k

I am no expert on .org so I could be wrong, but thats just going by previous sales

How did you come up with this figure?

Not saying it's not worth it, because the domain is a great fit for a human rights organization, a philanthropy non-profit etc.

The auction ended like 2 days ago with 5k not meeting the reserve. I wouldn't pay nowhere near five figures for it...

Seems to be in the high end. If you are an end user it really depends on how much you want it in comparison to your development plans and other potential domains. $22K can (still) get you pretty far. If you are a reseller with no specific end user in mind this would be a risky buy.

Aid.org sold for 30k

IMO, this is a much stronger domain because it's more general, easy to include in advertisements, easier to remember, and the "Aid industry" is huge. "Equality" is a strong keyword and great fit for .org but more specific.

Thanks guys. I understand this is for domains you own. I was in the middle of a deal and needed a response from a more popular channel.

Move.org sold for $120,000 and Dolphin.org sold for $45,000 so I think everyone can agree this is a tough one.

Kevin, are you planning a project on it?

Do you have any alternative for the name or this is the exact match of what the project will be doing?

That is the analysis you should be doing, not if others think you are overpaying or not.

If you don't have an alternative and project is expected to pay off the investment, go for it.

If you have at least 1-2 alternatives, make a lesser offer, then go with the alternative (could be an acronym or word+equality.org for hand reg), then come back a year or two down the road to check if the seller is more reasonable with the price.
