I like it. sounds like a talk show.

Serously "England" use can't be trademarked or copyrighted, correct?

No reason to fret in this case, "England" is not a trademark at least if used in the context of the country of England.

On the other hand, if there is some company called New England Glass Works, then it's best not to try to use this domain to profit off them. But there are better uses for "England" anyways...

If England Glass Works was the name, then it would be, but its just a generic word.

PM sent and he never came back to post his appraisal. -Sigh-

I would say reg-fee or 150% of reg fee. Reason being: I've never seen a .am take off in price, there may be end-users out there, but they're hard to find. Don't get your hopes up for a big sale, but start looking for end-users now if you're looking to make a buck off of it.

If you found this appraisal helpful, I appreciate feedback/rep :)

Appraisal for England.am

Appraisal: England.am

************************************

Hi There. Sorry in advance that this appraisal took so long. It's taking me many days to complete and do the research. I have been very busy getting ready for the holidays, family and work.

I decided to appraise this domain mainly by its TLD, since I believe this is the one defining factor that makes your domain different from every other combination of england.

I usually will appraise by the following methods.

- TLD
- Keyword Traffic
- Search Engine Competition & Page Rank
- Sales Comparables

TLD Valuation

Wikipedia has a good article on your extension and it's regulations below. I'll give you a brief summary of the important parts.

.am - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.am is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Armenia.

It makes note that it's a very popular domain to use for 'domain hacks' because of the mnemonic for AM radio. (other similar ccTLDs are .fm, .tv, .cd, .dj and .mu).

As for it's restrictions, some generic names are reserved. The registry reserves the right to revoke registrations due to obscenity or other illegal or immoral activity.

The reason this information is important because it tells us '2' things. We can't compare sales comparables of 'immoral' sites and we can compare sales comparables and consider them possibly more accurate for those in the extensions that were similar (.fm for example). Your target market is 'Armenia' or music/entertainment related identities.

The best way to find the value of the ccTLD .AM would be to compare LLL (any 3 combinations of letters a-z) sales of it against all other LLL sales comparables in other TLD's since 3 letter domains are commonly sold and can stand for anything and are not subject to any particular bias (like a timely event or specific industry).

It's important to figure out this 'general' value that .AM has because we will need to know it for looking at sales comparables.

Unfortunately there is no LLL sales comparable data for .AM, but what there is though is 'google' index data on the amount of sites using it. There is also LLL information for .com,.net,.info,.org,.biz,.us,.mobi and the price averages for those. They can be found at the link below.

3Character.com - 3 Character Domain Name Price Guide

What you can do when you know the value of a LLL in another TLD but not your own?

I've devised a method in which you use the data from google for the sites being used and then compare that against the LLL price to find a ratio. This is not completely accurate because certain TLD's like .org are biased to sell lower because of less commercial possibilities.

For example... if you type in google, (and I'm using google because they control 75% of the search engine marketshare), and use the query, "site:.TLD" (Ex: site:.com), you will get the results for the total amount of sites that are using that extension.

To make life simple I've listed the main TLD's and there info below.

TLD = Sites On Google | LLL Average Sales | Percentage LLL.com Price to LLL.tld price

.com = 8,880,000,000 | $4450 | 100%
.net = 1,790,000,000 | $550 | 12.36~%
.org = 1,960,000,000 | $190 | 4.27~%
.us = 277,000,000 | $25 | 0.56~%
.info = 217,000,000 | $90 | 2.02%~
.biz = 64,100,000 | $35 | 0.79%~
.mobi = 35,600,000 | Reg Fee ($7) | 0.01%~

Similar TLDs

.fm = 61,200,000 | unknown | unknown
.am = 8,920,000 | unknown | unknown
.tv = 96,300,000 | unknown | unknown

I want you to take a look at these figures and think about it for a moment.

Did you notice anything? Any Patterns? I named a few important one's below.

- In general the TLD's with more people using it are worth more.
- If it's not a global TLD (like .com,.net,.info or .org it tends to be worth less. Look at .us compared to .info, .info is worth more even though it has less websites then .us. This is because .info can be applied to anything, where .us can only be applied to sites in the united states and for domain hacks.
- Names with limitless commercial properties to them are worth more even though less people use them. Look at .biz versus .us. Even .mobi is limited because it only targets phones and the mobile related industry.

From these factors we can interpolate and extrapolate possible values for .am as a TLD in general. For example, the TLD that closest resembles .am for comparison purposes is probably .mobi and .us, because they both target particular markets like .am does, and .us is a ccTLD like .am is.

If .US sells for $25 on average for an LLL domain with 277,000,000 results and .AM sells for ? with 8,920,000 results we just have to solve for X like an algebra equation.

25/277,000,000 = 9.02527075812e-08

Therefor on the assumption that the dollar amount and total sites using the tld and sale market on the TLD's are similar then...

X/8,920,000 = 9.02527075812e-08, Solve for X and we get...

X = $0.81~

In other-words I'm saying the .AM keyword as a whole based on the information at hand does not look promising at the moment. That doesn't mean it might not be worth a lot later if the TLD ever takes off, but this is not likely as .MOBI being the newest TLD has more registrations then .am and .am has been around a lot longer, since 1994 in fact.

If use .mobi as the comparison TLD and solve for X we get...

7/35,600,000 = 1.96629213483e-07

X/8,920,000 = 1.96629213483e-07

X = $1.75~

Which is pretty much in the same ball park as the other prediction based from .US. Take the average of those two predictions and we get.

X = $1.28~ which is probably a more accurate figure of the value of an LLL.am currently as it stands. Which makes sense because I noticed a lot of LLL.am domains are still available to register.

What does this mean then? When we look at sales comparables of .com for example, we are to assume that now $1.28/$4450 (the 4450 if you remember is what .com LLL sells for), which equals 2.87640449438e-04, or 0.00028%~ of a .com domain sold we could sell the .am for 0.00028% of that. This will be useful in seeing how much england.am might actually be worth. I'll use this figure later on in this appraisal.

I think it's also important to note that the TLD ladder plays an important role here. To understand this better, you will recall that the more sites using a TLD in general the more valuable it becomes, especially if it can be used for commercial purposes.

A quick search on domainsite.com which offers mainly registrations in various TLD's brought me back the results below.

england.com: Taken
england.net: Taken
england.us: Taken
england.org: Taken
england.tv: Taken
england.info: Taken
england.biz: Taken
england.mobi: Taken
england.ws: Taken
england.in: Taken (confirmed at, Whois lookup | Registry.In)
england.bz: Taken (verified at https://www.belizenic.bz)
england.cc: Taken
england.us.com: Taken
england.eu.com: Taken
england.eu: ? (This HAS to be taken...but verified anyways at EURid)

england.name: ? (I found out later yes it's TAKEN)
england.ag: Taken? (appears to be false reading! This is available)
england.sc: Taken? (appears to be false reading! This is available)
england.la: Taken (The Official .LA Registry - www.la confirms it's true)
england.hn: Taken? (appears to be false reading, this is available!)
england.cn: Taken (is legit, confirmed at ewhois.cnnic.cn)
england.am: Taken (this is you)
england.fm: Taken (confirmed at dot.fm)

england.ac: ? (I found out it's FREE)
england.io: ? (I found out it's FREE)
england.sh: ? (I found out this is FREE also)

Domainsite.com couldn't check the following TLDs, .dj, .cd and .mu, since I consider these similar to .am, but they do appear to be taken except for .dj when I type england and that extension after it. If anyone knows a good site for mass checking names against TLD's I would appreciate it. I also noted that england.pro was taken, which has an expensive renewal fee. (pro).

As you can see every different TLD is taken or probably taken in the case of the ?. This means this keyword is obviously in demand and you may have some value based on your placement in the ladder.

I know for a fact that the .COM, .NET, .ORG, .US, .BIZ, .INFO, .MOBI & .TV are worth more then your domain name in the TLD ladder.

I don't know off the top of my head how much some of the other ccTLD's are worth in comparison to yours, so lets find out and see where you rank in the TLD ladder and who might be interested in purchasing your domain. I listed in order the remaining ccTLD's in value based on the assumption that more sites using it equals more value. I did not account for the fact that certain TLD's cost more to maintain yearly then others, but if a lot of people are still registering domains of a TLD that is expensive then that mean it's worth even more. I might be also missing a few TLD's in here as well.

I even put some interesting information about each of the TLDs, it's good to know what you are dealing with if you are going to venture into the outside TLD's, so it's why I listed so much information here.

These are not real TLD's but sub-domains, if people register this it means they are getting really desperate for the keyword
-------------------

Well that was a lot of information to take in but I believe completely necessary. Domains that have less value then yours that are registered include in order to closest value to .AM:

.NAME
.LA
.BZ
.MU (related to .AM)
.SC (Apparently not registered, and free, domainsite you lie!)
.HN (Apparently not registered, and free, domainsite you lie!)
.PRO
.CD (related to .AM)
.SH
.AC
.DJ (related to .AM and NOT REGISTERED)
.AG (Edit: Apparently not registered! Domainsite you lied...:|. )
.IO (not REGISTERED)
.US.COM
.EU.COM

That is a total of, 9 TLD's of which are registered that you are above in the TLD Ladder. Pretty Impressive, this means you have '9' potential buyers that might be interested in buying your domain name, especially the owners of those TLD's similar to yours already or those paying very high renewal fees.

What I like to do to put a value here is take the registration rates to renew for those TLD's.

As for your potential buyers if your TLD offers more credibility and rank in the ladder and cost less then what they are currently paying then they would be willing to most likely pay what they are already paying to acquire your domain name and maybe even a little more because of it's higher standing. In an auction like setting the more people bidding in general the higher the chances of price moving upward from their initial spending limit. That is to say, once you bid on something you don't want to stop until you get it. This phenomenon is why for every potential bidder involved I try to add 2% to the average of the TLD Registrations below you on the ladder. Since we know you have 9 potential buyers under you that is at least 18% extra you can expect as a minimum the bid might go to. Of course anything can happen and this is just an estimate. I have not taken into account the registration and renewal rates as this may drop the amount of potential buyers considerably.

We will also take the average of these registration rates to account for the fact that not every potential bidder will be interested and will give us a more realistic number biased to the downside. This downside biased is made up through the 2% rule I explained above.

Keep in mind I did not check every TLD, and there may be many more registered with 'england' which you could use to increase the value here. I just used some of the more popular TLD's and those similar to yours.

Below is a chart of the TLD's found below you on the ladder and there registration rates. Each includes a source. If someone can find a location with a cheaper registration rate I will update this list. This was harder to get all this pricing information then I thought =P.

.AM - $74.95/yr Wow...that's pricy (https://www.dot.fm/), at domain-site it's $99/yr

.NAME -$12.99/yr (1&1 Hosting)

.LA - $49.99/yr (Domain Name Registration Prices - Register and Buy Domains from Network Solutions)

.BZ - $35.00/yr (https://www.belizenic.bz/index.php/domain/scart)

.MU (related to .AM) - $64/yr (https://secure.register.mu/index.jsp)

.SC - Apparently you have to sign a form to register, but it's $125/yr, wow! (Seychelles ccTLD Network Information Centre - NIC .sc), THIS IS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE

.HN - $50/yr (.HN (Honduras) | Afilias Global Registry Services), AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE

.PRO - $34.99/yr (Domain Name Registration Prices - Register and Buy Domains from Network Solutions)

.CD (related to .AM) - $65/yr (CDNIC .CD Domain)

.SH ยฃ60.00/yr (https://www.nic.sh/new1.html)
1 UKยฃ = 1.62400 US$, so 97.44 US$/yr (convert 60ยฃ to $ - Google Search)

.AC ยฃ60.00/yr or $97.44/yr (https://www.nic.ac/)

.DJ (related to .AM) $50/yr (.DJ Registry - Internet of music - .DJ Domain Name for DJs and Disc Jockeys) - WAS NOT REGISTERED FOR ENGLAND.DJ (Available)

.AG - $75-150.00/yr (Nic AG) - WAS NOT REGISTERED FOR ENGLAND.AG

.IO - ยฃ60.00/yr or $97.44/yr (NIC.IO - The Indian Ocean .IO Domain Registry and Network Information Centre) DOMAIN WAS NOT REGISTERED for ENGLAND.IO!

.US.COM - $59.95/2yr (http://domainsite.com)

.EU.COM - $59.95/2yr (http://domainsite.com)

Well I learned something new in writing this appraisal. Domainsite is not accurate on it's readings of certain domain names being taken or not. Seems the best way is to go to the registries them selves... :sick:

If we take the 'actual' domains now that were registered and take the average of there registration rates we get...

$57.67 Average~ roughly, with '9' known buyers and with the 18% extra we can assume it might get pushed up by to...

$68.05* So at a minimum I can see a reseller paying about this amount. This is below the renewal rate for the domain but about what it would be worth on this valuation factor alone.

Lets explore now other possible areas of value...

Keyword Traffic

I'm going to try and make this section short because it's not as important as the others in this particular case.

https://adwords.google.com/select/TrafficEstimatorSandbox
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Above is the link to googles keyword tool and traffic estimator, the monthly 'exact' search results for 'England' is 550,000. Traffic Estimator predicts, 2,657 - 3,340 clicks a day.

To make this short, the traffic potential for 'England' is only valuable is you are in the first position of google.

There is a very interesting picture I found which illustrates the importance of being position #1 and #2 and why anything else underneath those positions in the search engine rankings is only of minor importance. This is important because my assumptions on the value in this section will be based on your domain being in position #1 or #2. The picture link is below.

http://trak.in/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/google-search-heat-map-small.jpg

The above shows an interesting graphic showing the user click heat-map on search engines, the areas in red are places where users are most likely to click first. With this in mind the data shows that about 90% of the visitors projected if you are in position #1 or #2 will click to your site after typing in the search keyword.

With this in mind, what are your chances of getting England.AM to the top of the search results for 'England'... I think you guessed it, pretty much nil unless you have a lot of money to burn. On a plus side however, you do have better odds of getting to the top of the keyword on the armenian version of googles website (Google).

Search Engine Competition & Page Rank

Before I go further I want you to know I'm using google because it owns 75% of the market-share and is the best search engine to use therefor for these kind of valuations. I will not be taking into account YAHOO or MSN.

There is a really useful page I found which seems to be very accurate when it comes to search engine optimization.

Search Engine Ranking Factors | SEOmoz

Below is that list with the factors that our important to us the domain owner.

Ranking is ordered based on...

73% - Keyword-Focused Anchor Text From External Links
71% - External Link Popularity (Quantity/Quality of External Links)
69% - (Geo-Targeting Factor) -> Country Code TLD of the Root Domain (e.g .co.uk, .de, .fr, .com.au, etc)

The important thing to note here is just how much difference the ccTLD can make in your ranking position. If you have a ccTLD you will rank better in that countries version of google or from that country or worse if you are not from that country. Unfortunately your target market would only be armenia and the population there is substantially smaller then the united states, most european union states and china. This means that of the 550,000 possible traffic that the google keyword tool predicted you will probably get a substantially less amount. I could get into the exact figures of what that is if you are interested and how that would be calculated just PM me, but I wanted to make this short and simple for you and let you know there is no value here.

I want to also note the page rank of the competing pages here in the united states have the following page ranks. PageRank is an important metric in my opinion because it gives you an idea of the difficulty in winning over on a keyword.

The PageRank Scale is below, it's based on a logarithmic scale from 0-10. 0 being worst and 10 being the best.

Rank 1 - 1 point
Rank 2 - 10 points
Rank 3 - 100 points
Rank 4 - 1000 points
rank 5 - 10000 points!
rank 6 - 100000 points!
rank 7 - 1000000 points!
rank 8 - 10000000 points!
rank 9 - 100000000 points! (eg. sites like microsoft.com)
rank 10 - 1000000000 points! (eg. sites like google.com)

The Top 8 Sites for 'England' using the United States Google Portal and there PR is listed below.

1 England Travel Guides - Holidays in England from Enjoy England : Enjoy England PR-7
2 https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/uk.html PR-0 (but probably around 7 or 6, sometimes PR can't be read on long URLs)
3 England Travel Information and Travel Guide - Lonely Planet PR-6
4 Map of England PR-5
5 England, Inc. - Experience Custom Comfort in 21 Days or Less! PR-4
6 Pictures of England - Exploring England with pictures & history PR-5
7 England: Definition from Answers.com PR-5
8 TheFA.com - Home PR-7

You probably noticed thefa.com is position 8 with PR-7 but if you look at the ranking rules it's missing a very important rule, it's not using 'england' in it's title tag. Correct use of title tag is extremely important in ranking at the top, even more then page rank. In situations where there are ties and you are trying to get in 1st place page rank can make all the difference. I bet if that site changed it's 'title' tag it would be probably right below wikipedia.

You would need 1000000 links from PR-1 pages to be on equal terms with a PR-7 site, or you could just get '10' PR-6 links or '100' PR-5 links to be on even terms. Is this really worth it though? Just how expensive is it to get links from PR-5 and PR-6 sites?

Well I did an experiment for that also a bit ago, it seems the going rate for PR-4 and PR-5 links or domains is $100-$300. I can only imagine a page rank 6 or 7 link would cost just as much more or be much more difficult to get a good price at in anycase. Of course anyone willing to sell me a PR-6 or 7 domain for under a $100 I'm all ears =).

My point being that it would be financially stupid to try and target england.am to the top of the search engines by raising your page rank, especially when google considers the ccTLD to be so important in it's decision making, the 3rd most important thing in fact.

Sales Comparables

I like to use the site DN Sale Price- Domain Name Sales Price and History to locate good sales comparables.

Some really notable sales that quickly stuck out at me are...

England.mobi $5,500 Jan 09 Moniker/DomainFest
England.cc $600 Mar 07 AfternicBazaar
England.net $29,000 Jun 05 SnapNames

With these sales comparables alone I can already make a very good projection of what the .AM might sell for to an end user.

Now I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but when I searched for all sales of domains that just had a sale with the extension of .am period I only got the following.

WebC.am $6,000 Sep 09 Sedo Auction
Poker.am $2,224 Mar 09 Sedo Auction
Exam.am $900 Aug 08 Sedo Auction
CR.am $900 May 08 Sedo Auction
LX.am $833 Apr 08 Sedo Auction
Flowers.am $500 Jan 08 Sedo Auction
Audio.am $160 Dec 07 Sedo Auction
Law.am $950 Feb 07 Afternic

Looks like the place to sell is 'Sedo Auction', as that is the only recorded place showing sales of .AM domains, in fact those 8 are the only records I could find period. None of those names are sales comparables either, and .AM only started selling since 2007. It's high renewal rate I'm sure has something to do with this. I don't see any sales comparables in .AM directly that we can use that are related to England in some way. So the best we can do is use the '3' sales of 'England' we found in the other extensions.

If you recall back in the start of my post, I mentioned that an LLL.AM might be worth $1.28. Well since we have a direct comparison of the just the keyword in a different extension and 3 of them for that matter, we can project what the .AM might sell for.

england.cc is probably the best of the '3' to use since it's a ccTLD like .am.

First we have to find out what england.cc as an LLL might sell for to get a general idea of it's value, we can even see how accurate our estimate is with the sale of $600 by doing this.

You might recall this little list I made before of sales data for LLL domains in different TLD's.

.com = 8,880,000,000 | $4450 | 100%
.net = 1,790,000,000 | $550 | 12.36~%
.org = 1,960,000,000 | $190 | 4.27~%
.us = 277,000,000 | $25 | 0.56~%
.info = 217,000,000 | $90 | 2.02%~
.biz = 64,100,000 | $35 | 0.79%~
.mobi = 35,600,000 | Reg Fee ($7) | 0.01%~

Well if a .net average of $550 below and it's search engine results we get...

550/1,790,000,000 = 3.07262569832e-07

.cc has 73,000,000 google results. With X being the price of an LLL for .cc we have...

X/73,000,000 = 1.62011173184e-05, solve for X and we get.

england.cc estimate at: $22.43~, which is around what the renewal rate right now for .cc is at. I think most LLL.cc are taken now as well so that matches up.

if an LLL.cc is worth $22.43 on average and we said an LLL.AM is worth $1.28. Then...

$1.28/$22.43 = 5.7%, That is to say that any domain sold in .cc, you could expect the .AM to sell for 5.7% of that as things stand currently.

So 5.7% of $600 = (.cc as comparison) $34.20~
5.7 % of $29,000 (.net as comparison) = $1653~
5.7% of $5,500 (.mobi as comparison) = $313.50~

If you take the average of these values, we get $666.90~. I think you could very well make an End-User Argument for mid $XXX based on these figures, however...

Each sale of those england domains was '2' years apart, the most recent being the sale of the england.mobi. It may take a long time to find a buyer, especially since there are so many better TLD's above yours in the ladder, not to mention there low volume of sales for .AM period as far as I can tell. I think your odds of selling are extremely low as it stands. You may have to hold onto the name for many many years before you find a buyer that pays the mid $XXX figure I posted, but it can happen. The more sales comparables you find the more realistic the END-USER figure should become, I based it only on '3', but '3' really good ones. I also realize that my figure for the .AM is larger then what the .cc sold for, but it's possible the .cc was undervalued in it's sale. Probably lower to make a quick sale. You may have to do this also, especially if you plan to sell to a reseller. This domain will not be a quick sell to a reseller. Especially since the renewal rate is so high for .AM. By the time you find a buyer at the proper rate you would have lost all your income in renewal fees. I think this would be a risky buy for a reseller hoping to cash in on an end user in my opinion. You never know though anything can happen, I'm just stating what I see from experience and the facts before me. If however .AM lowers it's renewal fees this could become a great buy later and worth the risk to a reseller, but it would have to be substantially lowered.

Conclusion

In conclusion I appraise the domain name at $68.05 (Reseller) + MID $XXX (EndUser)

The domain just barely pays for it's own registration fee however and finding an end user could take many years.

Perhaps you can market the domain name as music for england.

I should note the value of your domain name goes down quickly as it approaches it's renewal date to resellers. It is only worth REG FEE the last month before it expires because of how expensive it would be to renew it. Keep this in mind if you plan to sell to a reseller.

Good luck with the sale of your domain name, and I hope I gave you some useful insights.
