For a pronounceable, brandable 4 letter .com? I have been out of the domain name scene for a few years but it used to be worth at least mid $xxx a few years ago. Has the market for these types of domain names gone done lately?

In my opinion that domain could be worth anywhere from $150 - $350, depends on what you can fetch.
Of course, an end-user will pay more than that.

The value of 4L.com's has certainly gone down over the years. Although they usually get backordered, there are still plenty of 4L.com's dropping each week. This one isn't bad though..triple premium VCVC so I'd say it could fetch low-mid XXX..Even the value of quad premiums and CVCV's has gone way down!
