My position is that superiority debates serve a purpose. While it is nice to see the advantages of multiple domain extensions or domains, there are clear financial advantages to betting on a winner. Often the larger domain name sales involve Venture Capitals, Domain Literate Investors & Accountants who want to know that a domain name is a catalyst to a supporting advertising campaign. The role domainers play in engaging in superiority debates helps investors know what language is seen as likely to take off. Domainers heavily analyse sales statistics in order to understand the language of today and often act in the futurist domain to make forecasts about emerging language.
The superiority debate between .ai and .si has been one of the biggest events on Namepros this year. In the early stages there was a lot of skepticism but over the last few months there emerged some clear endorsers that championed the argument for the domain extension. Now we have some key endorsements for .si name #SuperIntelligence from @zuck/Instagram.com (I haven't seen the endorsement so not sure if this is a rumour), @elonmusk/x.com & @realdonaldtrump/@truthsocial.com and with these endorsements, there is validation seen for the early advocates. These endorsements are evidence for the larger sharks and whales who pay $XX,XXX+ for .si domain names and so these sales are core validation that the early advocates were right in their forecasts.
As somebody who is trying to build up my skills as a domain name consultant, I want to be able to have the skill of giving advice on the best possible domain a customer will use. If a company is using 1-5% of it's marketing budget to domain name purchases, they need to make a shrewd decision on what this name is as a bad decision has the potential to cost them thousands if not millions. I am watching from the sidelines with this .ai vs .si domain debate as my area of speciality is a different type of intelligence tool. I know there is some big endorsements these last few weeks but I think the domain statistics for the big sales in the intelligence market will tell a more accurate picture of how convincing the streets interpret these endorsements. I am very interested in how people will interpret the .si space in April next year.
